If you know the focal lengths you use the most, you'll have an easier time deciding. [Edit I see you have a S2IS] Unless you feel limited by the reach, any xx-300 zoom wil do just fine. If you get a 70-200 2.8 you are sacrificing a bit of range, but getting a lot better lens (also, the 2.8 aperture) which would enable you to crop more.

Your S2IS: eq. 36-432mm
55-300 on crop: eq. 80-450mm
70-200 on crop: eq. 100-300

This camera is limiting me alot. I cant manual focus, i dont have any dials for shutter and aperture i have to use the arrows on the selector and I have to go menu diving to get the correct settings. The camera is also very very noisy and only goes upto iso 400. It has no interchangeable lenses and the list goes on. I think you will understand now

Thanks. Ok i think ill just get a 55-300 then because, yeah i would like to get some more distance ,but it costs alot to get that distance with good quality. And a 150-500 would be a bugger to carry around on a 3hr bush walk.

The DA 55-300 is a really decent lens for a consumer lens. The key with wildlife/birding photography is to get as close as possible. Birds are just so small and if you can be within 10 feet, it makes a huge difference.

dam that 55-300 is a really good lens haha.

here's some shot of mine, on a cheap tokina 60-300mm.

might pick up that 55-300 if i have a chance.

it's a cropped image, the original isn't that close.
