Have many of you tried using some of the old wide angle lenses on your K5 Just curious about the results . When you put one of the old 35mm film lenses on the new DSLR lets say a 28mm F1:2 isn't that then a larger field of view because of the sensor or I am once again just confused ?

Hello marquis,
No, it won't be wider, it will be more narrow. A 28mm will yield a photo that looks like it was taken with a 42mm lens (if there was such a length).
The 'digital factor' is 1.5, one of the easiest examples to remember is the common 50mm focal length, the old-time 'standard' lens. It's now a 75mm.

The crop factor on Pentax DSLRs is ~1.5x so an old film camera 28mm lens on a DSLR would give the same field of view as a 42mm.on film So I guess the field of view would actually seem smaller. But I get FOV and Angle of View confused.

Thank you both for the information. The 1.5 is easy to remember. Well that negates my wanting a wider lens using a 28mm, for now loojks like my best bet is the WR 18-55mm pentax until I can afford something wider. I have many older lenses just not what I need for the landscape photos I would like to take. You all have been very helpful, Thanks again.

You can always "stitch" photos together to create a panorama shot. Perhaps not what you want creatively though.

A 28/2 would be a great indoor lens for an slr, though.
