My new Boomerang flash bracket. Built like a tank but doesn't weigh like one.

When flipped to portrait I can still use the buttons on my battery grip without the flash ending up on the underneath.

What a concept, I couldn't believe how hard it was to find a quality bracket that took this into account. Sure, some brackets you could attach backwards to achieve the same thing, but it usually seemed to require mods.

It stands up too, for those times you need to set your rig on a table or bar top.

Not cheap though, but so far I like its design and quality.

More later after I have some time with it.

A few more of the rig, this time with my Light Scoop II attached.

My nephews called it Robo Camera.

This last one shows it flipped to portrait.

I love having the light up high now. I was able to experiment just a bit at a family gathering. Old school boring stuff for many of you, but new territory for me

The cam action on the grip is positive and solid. There's no play at all when flipping to portrait and back again. In fact, nothing so much as wiggles or jiggles. Wish the same could be said about me...

The optional stand has already come in quite handy, and it can be slid out of the way if you find it interfering with your grip on the lens.

One thing though (and not a knock on the grip): I can't use the stand if I am also using my Black Rapid strap. The BR's fastener of course screws into the bottom and that prevents the camera from sitting flat on a table top.

These were all just off the cuff shots. The one of Lukie was literally the first I fired with the whole rig (grip plus LS2).

Now that I've had a few months with it, I can say that I'm in love with the Boomerang in conjunction with the Lite Scoop II.

I have used this at a paid wedding gig, and at over a dozen outdoor senior portrait sessions. With the rig I have not needed to break out my umbrellas anymore and this has allowed far greater mobility and creativity, "on the fly" as it were. Plus I'm pretty much unaffected by wind: no more flying umbrellas and hauling weights around.

Flipping back and forth between portrait and landscape is instantaneous, smooth and rock solid.

Time spent in post is way down, with no longer needing to deal with red eyes ever.

The light from the Scoop is wonderful: soft, surrounding and consistent (unlike bouncing). The light quality has also reduced post time with far less spent in dealing with wrinkles and creases.

Next to quality glass, this is my best investment so far.
