difference between Li-90 and Li-90P?

If I understand correctly, the Li-90 battery works for the K-5, and the Li-90P battery is standard with the K-5iis. Is that correct? And are they really different, different enough to matter?

I noticed that too as I have both K-5 and K-5IIs, aside from the extra pin in both the charger and battery, I don't notice any difference as I have used them interchangeably between the K-5 and K-5IIs.

So, can one use a 4-pin battery in a 3-pin charger? A 3-pin battery in a 4-pin charger? Or do the number of pins need to be identical?

I have the following cameras and they came with the following batteries:

K-01: D-LI90
K-5 IIs: D-LI90P
K-3: D-LI90

Those cameras are listed in chronological order of when they were released.

I think it's got something to do with safety regulations, as there's no other practical difference between the two afaik.

I live in the UK. I've had a K-7, K-5, K-5IIs, and a K-3.

All of them came with a Li-90 (3 contact) battery. All of them came with a 3-contact charger. I use the charger that came with the K-7 for all of them. I use any of these batteries in any of these cameras.
