Configuring K5IIs To Use HDMI Cable

OK, I have the HDMI cable, plugged it into the HDMI port on the laptop and the camera, but nothing. I can't figure out how to view the pictures that are on the SD card on the laptop.

Also, I cannot figure out how to use the live view on the laptop.

Clearly it is not "plug and play". Do I need a driver for the laptop?

What am I missing?

Isn't the HDMI port on your laptop an output?

usually they are, you'd need a TV or monitor to display the image.

Very few laptops have HDMI input, they do exist though, I know a couple Alienware models have it.

Well that may be the issue. I did plug the thing into one of the TV's and after a bit of stumbling about I was able to get the live view to work and also view pictures from the SD card.

The latter did a much better job of displaying the pictures than the AV setup on the K10 ever did.

You will need an HDMI capture card (HDMI to USB) to connect your camera to laptop or a desktop PC.

The laptop is an ASUS U53Jc Bamboo model. Really cool with real bamboo on the outside of the lid and the area adjacent to the keyboard where the touchpad is. Reading the specs all it says is "Interface: 1 x HDMI" in addition to the other stuff like Microphone, Headphone, VGA port, RJ45 LAN and USB. Reading the user manual is no help either. It simply describes the HDMI port but does not indicate if it is an innie or and outie.

I suppose I will just use the AV connection and leave it at that.

Plug it into the TV. Laptop HDMI is for sending stuff to another monitor, like a TV.

The laptop has a built-in SD card reader [5 -in-1 card reader ( SD/ MS/ MS Pro/ xD/ MMC)], it's trivial to take card from camera and insert in laptop SD reader.

Hi friends,
HDMI doesn't work on my tv-set ... connected by a Pentax K-5.
They sometimes say: "Put all off - connect the cable - and only then turn on both "machines"

Q:
Is there any possibility that an electric malfunction is caused by wrong cronological order ?
In my case neither the picture appeared on tv-screen, nor the display shuts down as wanted.
(Later on a firmware-update went wrong and completely killed the camera)
