K5 II video shake mechanical or electronic shake reduction?

Hello all, I have read that the k5 utilizes mechanical shake reduction in video mode, and that the new K3 unfortunately uses electronic shake reduction in video which is unfortunate as it appears to introduce more wobble/jello effect when handheld. I am curious does the k5 II line use mechanical SR like the k5 or electronic like the k3.

I want to make a note that I am not looking into this camera primarily for video, I am more interested in photography overall but the ability to capture motion and sound in certain situations does appeal to me. I will most likely not be shooting from a tripod, but will be taking scenery video etc handheld this is why I ask about the shake reduction. Thank you for anyone who can answer this, I have searched for this information but have been unable to find much.

Cheers

The k-5 ii uses the exact same internal hardware as the original k5, with the exception of the af module. So yes, the video stabilization is mechanical.

If you want the best possible video stabilization I'd look for a Sigma OS lens like the 70-200mm, as this would solve the issue that the k-3 has. Note that OS lenses were only produced for a brief period of time for Pentax, so some models (like the 17-50) may be very difficult to find.

Thank you for your response Adam, any idea if it is possible or likely for Pentax/Ricoh to enable mechanical SR in video mode on the K3 with future firmware updates? (considering all of the unimpressed responses by users on the implementation of electronic SR on the k3).

There is no technical reason why this can't be done. It's just a matter of how well Ricoh listens to its customers.
