Well used K-5 value?

Bit of a different question, but I didn't know where else to ask.

Anyone have any idea about the used resale value of a good condition, but 50k actuation K-5, out of warranty? I ask here because I've never seen a K-5 for sale with more than about 20k actuations, and so I really have no idea about how much anyone would be willing to pay for one?

I'm not ready to sell, just looking into the possibility.

Thanks. :-)

You might check the listings on the marketplace, or sold listings on Ebay.

Thanks, unfortunately I already have many times, and like I said, haven't found any listings with actuations coming anywhere near 50k. :-\

50k is I think 50% of rated shutter life. Honest opinion, take an average of sold k-5's and discount by 10-15% from there. You will likely be in the bottom quartile of value, IMHO, assuming all other things are good, cosmetically and operationally.

Okay, thanks! If you're right, that's a pretty decent selling price, still. I hope I could sell it for just 10-15% below average. :-)

You can always go down, you cannot go up. Put a reasonable price on it and see what happens. If it is good shape otherwise it should sell. I sold mine not that long ago with I think 39k on it.

50 K isn't so much. After buying a pair of K5IIs bodies early this year, I sold my K20 backup and one of my K5's on eBay. The K5 had about 105 K exposures. The one with 120 K exposures I kept as a backup, still use it.

I used KEH pricing as a benchmark, knowing I couldn't offer the 6 month warranty KEH does. It sold for $292. Post good photographs of and from the camera and be honest, it's what we all want. And price it right. What would you be willing to pay?

Good advice, thanks! It's nice to hear you sold yours for that much. I was thinking between $300 and $400, but given that I hadn't seen any this well used for sale, I wondered if the value might drop significantly after a given age.

I have not actually bought anything with this pricing philosophy, but I have thought of rated life vs. remaining life, and used straight line pricing to determine what I though I would pay. If one assumes a good K5 has a shutter life of 100K, and used units with 20K are going for, say $400, then I would nominally price a 50K unit at about (50)/(100-20) X $400 = $250 (assuming of course that the unit looks and functions good). I perceive that bidders on ebay, for example, would pay more than that, especially with the K5's great reputation. But $250 would be my limit. My $0.02 worth!
