K-5II remote

I am looking for a remote for my Pentax k-5II DSLR I would like one that will auto focus as well. I do not have much knowledge on the remotes and what all I will need to get the job done. I would appreciate any advise

Thanks James

Here's the compatible remote:
Pentax Remote Control F reviews - Pentax Camera Accessory Review Database

You can also use a traditional cable release. There are no remotes that offer AF control or other functions.

Wired remotes can have two wires allowing to simulate the shutter button on the camera. So half press will activate AF (not sure how it works with back-button AF) and full press takes the shot; it's even possible to 'lock' the button (same as keeping the shutter button on the camera pressed) for B-mode.

Pentax has the CS-205 wired remote. It's my understanding that there are plenty similar (and compatible) devices available for lower prices; just make sure that you get one with 3-contact 2.5mm mic/phone jack (and if it states Canon, it will more than likely also work on Pentax).

See e.g. Remote Controls | B&H Photo Video for models. And more specific, Vello RS-C1II Wired Remote Switch for Select Cameras RS-C1II B&H should do the trick (from the description).

It's not too difficult to make your own one if you're that way inclined; two push-buttons, a normal switch (for B), a jack plug, some cable and a housing.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. Both the IR-P1 Infrared Remote Control & IRM-P IR Remote Mini for Select Pentax Cameras from Vello will trigger your camera and activate the AF.

The IRM-P IR Remote Mini for Select Pentax Cameras from Vello is a pocket-size infrared remote control that lets you wirelessly take photos with your camera from up to ten feet away. When your camera is in remote triggering mode, the IR Remote Mini works by simply pressing the central button while aiming it at your camera. Be sure that there are no obstructions between your camera and the remote as an infrared remote needs line-of-sight communication to function properly.

The IR-P1 Infrared Remote Control for Select Pentax Cameras from Vello is a wireless remote control that lets you take photos with your Pentax camera from up to fifteen feet away. It can also be used to trigger a remote camera when shooting events. On cameras with zoom capability, you can use the IR-P1 to zoom in and out as well.

To successfully use an infrared remote, your camera must be set on the remote trigger function and the IR remote needs to point directly at the camera with no physical obstructions between the camera and remote.

The Pentax O-RC1 can do that, a tad more pricey than the alternatives though.

I suggest look for remote that uses radio signal not infrared.Infrared need to be in line of sight like TV remote so you will be pointing the remote to the camera while taking shots (not to good if your included in the photo). With wireless radio trigger you can hide your hand at your back or pocket.

Been using Aputure Trigmaster plus for a while now most of the time for doing family pics( so I will be included in the pics ) The little downside of radio trigger is you have to connect the slave trigger to the camera but that's it.
