Using K5 & Sigma 70-200 for Birds in Flight

The question is "Is this combination fast enough?" The answer is yes. If the conditions are right, the results can be spectacular. Here is a link to my flickr album https://flic.kr/s/aHske3rNaW which contains about 47 out of about 150 images that I took at the set. Many of the images that I did not include are excellent, but are just repetitive or I have included them in other web sites including facebook etc.

You need a minimum of 1/1000 of a second and preferably around 1/1600. To achieve this I ran my iso at 400. In order to catch the eagles on the water, I focused on the food tossed on the water. When the eagle swooped in I moved the camera towards the eagle and followed the eagle through its flight. Focus was set to AFC, shutter obviously fast.
