K-5 and 18 - 135mm problem

Hi all.
I have Pentax 18-135mm ED AL DC WR lens with a problem. The auto focus won't work anywhere below about 35mm. Works fine for higher magnifications. I have two K5 bodies and the problem is the same for both, so I don't think it is the bodies at fault. This situation seems to only happen in normal daylight conditions and only between 18mm and around 35mm. Above that it is fine. In very low light conditions all seems to be ok. I have tried using liveview and it works fine. It doesn't seem to make any difference what lighting conditions I try (high contrast or low) with the exception of very low light. I'm baffled at this. I could use live view all the time, but I prefer to use through the view finder focusing, so it is important that I solve this. Has anyone else encountered this problem.

You already asked this question in the Lens Discussion area of this forum. You got good advice that enabled you to get improved usage from the lens, and it is also obvious that the lens needs to be sent for repair.

Try looking at KEH's repair service, as it may be the cheapest repairer.

But, why are you asking again, and in the wrong forum area?

Hi Bagga_Txips
Thanks for the reply
The reason I asked in this forum area is two- fold 1. that the problem involves my K-5's and after further experimentation I discovered new information. and 2. I did post this new information in the lens forum, but had no further replies.
Your advice re KEH's repair service is gratefully received but unfortunately I live in Australia, so is of no use.

Hello D K, maybe chat with C. R. Kennedy, they are friendly and very capable with these matters.
