K5ii on the fritz

I was out on Saturday and my K5ii suddenly stopped taking pictures. From power up on the first shutter release press the camera acts like it's taking a photo, but doesn't and the 'play' and 'menu' buttons are unresponsive. One the second shutter release press the shutter opens, but doesn't close and even if I turn the power switch to off it stays open and the displays stay active until I take the battery out. Once I put the battery back in the shutter closes/mirror drops and the camera returns to F8.0 and ISO 6400 regardless of what settings I dialled in before it froze.

I'm running 1.07 firmware, a SanDisk Extreme class 10 SDHC card and I've got just under 18000 clicks on the shutter. Any ideas?

EDIT - I just tried live view and I get a blank screen.

Sounds like the main board might be fried... and that would be expensive to replace.

Ricoh's base price for a repair on a K5ii is ~$300. I guess my only option is to send it in and see what the diagnosis is. I called Precision Camera and they said that if it was unrepairable/too expensive to repair then they don't charge the $300.

So far I've had an AF 540 die on me, the auto focus on my DA*55 has packed up and now my K5ii! It's almost enough to make we switch to another brand...

You've just been unlucky. That happens with every brand, I'm afraid
