Rubber door usb/hdmi/dc port K-5 came of.

It's hinges broke. I had no problem getting the hinges out of the K-5. Has anybody had this problem and did you fix it? As I am liable to lose the cover now.

Consider making an improvised hinge using duct tape (it's available in black, not only the ubiquitous silver found in many toolboxes). Insert the door, clean the door and camera surface with an alcohol swab, apply a strip of tape spanning the forward facing seam where the door and camera meet.

Buy a replacement part.

Is this the cover?
Pentax 77760-A0281 Connector Cover | K-3 | K-5 | K-7 | USCamera PartsUSCamera

USCamera has it in stock. They ship overseas.

Another forum member mentioned there is a photo equipment store in Germany that will sell parts to end users. I believe it is Rüdiger Maerz GmbH possibly in Berlin in Hamburg but I'm not certain. You have the part number from the above link.

A bit late to add information, but I don't think this is important enough to open a new thread.
Easily to find with a searching machine which prefers German language:

Rüdiger Maerz is either authorized support and/or repair center for
Canon
Ricoh
Pentax
Tamron
Tokina
Nissin
Rollei
and some more.

They also have their fingers somehow in the Canon Pro Service (renting and support on site).
Their main business seems to be with Canon anyway.

Ricoh Pentax do list them as their only authorized repair center in Germany.
I personally had never heard about them.

Far too rigid a rubber for the hinge

Looks like might be a problem in the future with my recent acquired K5. Hope to see a good solution to this better than duct tape.

Just lost cover

Sorry for reviving the thread. I just lost the aforementioned rubber connector cover, and I'm worried since my K-7 is now not weather-proof. Does anyone know of a store that still has this component in stock? Or is anyone willing to sell it to me? I live in Europe.

So far as I know, you're out of luck. Your best bet would be a broken donor camera.

Seal it with silicone sealant. You will lose some functionality though.

Thank you for the suggestion, but that is sadly not an option for me as I still want to be able to use the port.

If you still have the door why not just push it in the hole and tape it shut? No hinges needed.

For reasons I've never been able to fathom Pentax have some sort of mental aberration over battery doors and the like going all the way back to the MEF. It's one of those things you have to put up with given the other strengths of the marque. Just like Alfa Romeo enthusiasts have to accept their love and joy rusting away before their eyes. (and yes, I've had a couple of them as well)

Many camera/electronics makers use "rubber" doors, not just Pentax. One of my Olympus cameras had a hinged rubber cover over the USB and other ports for instance. I say had because the rubber dried out and the hinge broke.
