Departing a bit from the excellent advice above, I have a couple of related thoughts just slightly off-topic.
1. This won't necessarily help with capturing reds, but have you ever used a circular polarizing filter? It can be a big help with nailing nature's colors. We usually only think of them as eliminating glare on water and metal, but leaves and flowers also benefit. Be sure to get a high quality one; cheap ones aren't worth having.
2. I love my K-5IIs. To me the AWB was a bit blue, so I adjusted it one tick toward amber based on advice here on PF. However, when I got my KP, literally the first thing I noticed was how accurate the AWB was. In a side-by-side review with a K-3, the KP came out ahead in color accuracy. Just saying.
