I've always been fascinated by the structure and texture of plants and flowers. Yes, they have a beauty when seen as a whole but when you really get close, petals and leaves start revealing their real secrets to you.
Hairy, silky smooth, veined, wrinkled and the list goes on and on. It's the minutest of details which can only been seen by observing closely and under various lighting conditions and angles.
In this case, take a vase of sunflowers standing on our garden table on a bright summer day. The leaves surrounding the petals turn out to be really furry and the petals reveal their silkiness and veined structure only in the infrared spectrum on my converted K-5. Using an Irix 150mm macro lens which has spectacular resolution and almost no optical flaws (like fringing) which might deteriorate fine detail, I was able to capture this, almost frail and delicate, closeup of a common flower we tend to take for granted.
