How is tamron on k5? I have 70-200 f2.8 and think to upgrade from k100d to k5. This lens is a very flexible toy.
Thanks! You should definitely make the upgrade, I used to have a K100D way before I owned the 70-200, but I did use it a lot with a K20D before upgrading to a K-5. The AF on the K-5 turns the 70-200 into a whole new lens, and the ability to set the camera to release priority (rather than focus priority) makes the whole set-up feel more responsive too, although it would be better if the focus could be improved further.

wow Darren that is great, maybe time for a real wheatersealed lense in future.
Yeah definitely, but I moved away from the DA* lenses because of SDM concerns, slow AF, and I just wanted the 70-200 f/2.8 set-up and Pentax didn't have that.

Although with paintball you have to worry about the extreme localized pressure forcing the paint into places that the weather-sealing isn't designed to handle, so some additional precautions are still recommended.

Awesome shots of the paintball game Darren. Just shows once more how rugged that K5 is. Did the paint struck your fingers?
Yeah I got shot and splattered all over multiple times, especially when I got caught in the line of fire, but it's all part of the fun and luckily there was no major harm to my gear

Urban beach volley-ball.

Yesterday I went to take picture of urban beach volley-ball at Parc-Jeanne Mance in Montreal; the league is an amateur (of all level) players, teams and individuals.

The play level was quite high; both men and women, in particular the women, there was a 4-some (2 vs. 2) that played high level for a good 2 hours non-stop.

All images were taken with the k-5 and the da 18-55 II wr and the da* 50-135.

The sun was there, high and hot and in mid-afternoon made shooting difficult (harsh images); but permitted high shutter speed with relatively high f-stops.

I'm still learning ... but there were good shots.

Thanks, I sended it in for PEG gallery, but wasn't excepted. Here is wath the commend was:

Below you will find comments on your photo. You might want to re-submit an edited version of your photo depending on the circumstances!
- Nice girl, but poor angle (due to the background).

- Too much blur on the hand ruins shot. Looks like focus was on the face and outer right.

- Good perspective, however the rendition is plain and lacks punch.

I wonder what kind of sportspictures people expect and if there is any idea of the difference between actionshots and pre-arranged shootings? There is a zoo-monkey in the PEG for wich I ask myself how that got in it.

AIR POWER 2011 - Austria /Tracking AF.C

Hi,
enclosed some pics i took this weekend during the AIR POWER 2011 in Austria, one oft the greatest European Airshow.
Pics were taken with my DA 55-300, I used multi centre AF-Pointing in the AF.C Hi-mode, shutter speed when focusing the fighters was between 1/800 and 1/1000.
There weren't many pics being OOF which i discarded, the system was working impressingly exact, I was really delighted.
The only problem shortly occured was as the cam was on and the shutter suddenly froze..no shooting was possible ...couldn't turn my K-5 off...too...did somebody have this problem?
took battery quickly out and placed it in again...and the K-5 was ready again (bcse of lower battery charging status?...hmmm)

enjoy some fighter acrobats....
greetings from Austria,
Sascha

Ron, great shot - and that comment is a bad joke.

I did some atletics this weekend:

Tried again my FA*85mm on f1.4 and that sometimes is just wonderful.

Some black and white:

1) Bianca Baak, fastest on 400m hurdles.

2) Marije Langen, warming-up for high jump.

3) Iris Pruysen, farjumping.

4) Suzan Verduijn, farjumping.

The level of participants wasn't very high due to the dutch championship and qualification for European youth games was the day before on another track.

I like the last image, not the most flatering (sp?) position, but the eyes make the shot wonderful!

K5 and Sigma 100-300 f4 EX

Hi,
Is anyone out there using a K5 with the Sigma 100-300 f4 EX for their sports photos. Can you recommend this combo.
I'm using this lens with a K10d, predominately at the 300 end for rowing photography. The lens is excellant but depth of field as you can imagine is very shallow at 300mm and the AF of the K10 is so slow it is causing me to miss too many important shots I've been commisioned to take.
I've tried a colleague's Canon and Sigma combo and the keep rate is far far higher than my Pentax combo.
I'm on the verge of ditching the K10 and Sigma and starting afresh with a Canon set up for my rowing photos but before I do so can the K5 persuade me to stay with Pentax.
Your thoughts and advice are welcome.
Thanks.
