For my indoor gymnasium shots I use jpeg and shoot in manual.
I change the white balance to the best looking one for the lighting.
Focus is center point AFC, continuous shutter, with focus priority.
I'm no expert but it seems to work for me.

For my gym shots (shooting from the floor r/t seats), I use the Sigma 50-150/2.8, TAv (f2.8 or 3.2, 1/500 or 640s) AF-S, center point focus, focus priority.

More Girls Lacrosse

It's been a cold start to the season but the girls are getting it together. My Sigma 100-300/4 has been balky (I may have to send it in) so I used the Sigma 70-200/2.8 for these. The light was so contrasty, I really had difficulty with the highlights.

Thank you dadipentak. I very much like your Lacrosse pics. Is it really Lacrosse or is it something else?

Very cool. I've never seen it. I may have a trip to DC soon. Maybe I can catch a game.

I have a few more.

Spring is behind schedule here in Finland, still quite large banks of snow around the football pitch. I'm only happy that the matches are played during the daylight hours, and not under yellow natrium lights which makes life hard for a photographer. These were shot - as before - with my K-5 + Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 wide open. Some of them quite heavily cropped.

Hopefully the last snowfall of this winter...

And I just noticed that nobody has probably been able to see these shots. Good for me. Now they should be visible for your pleasure ;D

Thanks very much crewl. I've never really done it before so I took a ton of mistakes and a couple of acceptable ones like below. I'll try to practice on something faster next time (shhhh...don't tell my son because he actually won his events ) for a more dramatic background blur.

Is it me or is there almost a 3D effect to some of these pics?

No, the blurring in the background gives a definite 3D feel--well done!
