No not yet. It is on my list, but to busy with other things the last time the Dutch Championship where nearby. Not a very easy sport to bring in a picture.

Brooke that is indeed excellent. My favorites are numbers #1 and #4. Great job done.
You all are very kind. Been working a lot, its fun to share. I picked up a small job next Saturday morning, hired by the YMCA to shoot the local soccer team (Railhawks) teaching kids. It will be a change to shoot in daylight.

Hello,

I did some thinking... I want to get rid of Sigma APO DG 70-300 and get something better..... I had a nice event for gymnastics and was very disappointed by this Sigma perfomace - very soft (well.... got spoiled by limiteds )

Now, what to do??? I need some versatility, and speed - both regarding light and AF (so SDM only??). Most of the time I would guess to hunt in tough lightning conditions (indoor). What to choose?

- Sigma 70 - 200 2.8 - which version exactly?
- Pentax DA 50-135 - I am afraid of those SDM issues. Possibly I would have to overpay a little bit, since it seems that Moscow might not accept international warranty, so buying in local store (ooops... no tax free this time)
- Pentax DA 60 - 250 - the F4 might not be good enough, but additional 250 reach might be tempting.

Help please - since we are in sports photography

The OS version - heavy lens but a stellar performer...

Long lens

I have the 60-250 and absolutely love it. It is very sharp when focused properly. With the high ISO performance of my k-5 the f4 is no limit for low light photography. I use it to shoot basketball in poorly lit high school gyms with great results.

I'd mention you could consider renting these lenses and testing them. I thought the 60-250 was very heavy.

So it seems that we have sigma and pentax 60-250 as competitors.... Long end of 50-135 is to short?

On the Sigma, I guess the EX DG OS HSM is the versio to take. Inever bought the previous version, since I thought it to soft.

The DA*50-135mm I found a little short and slow focussing. Part of this is that I own a FA*85mm and then the extra reach is to short for me. But definetly a very good lens.

The DA*60-250mm is a very good lens, but at the long end it could need a stop down to f4.5.

The DA*300mm is also an option, like DA*200mm.

The Sigma is sharper at 200mm from f3.2 to f4 then the DA*60-250mm at 200-250mm and f4. The DA*300mm is sharper at F4 then the above lenses. The DA*200mm is better then the Sigma, but can give some purple fringing wide open, and the sigma is faster in focussing.

Choosing a prime over a zoom is always a difficult thing. They tend to be better performers.

I also have the 50~135 - yes, the long end of 135 is to short for field sports, court sports its fine, field sports its just a little short...

So we have a satisfactory setup of:

Sigma 70-300 EX DG OS HSM on one body,
Pentax DA*300mm on second body for actions in far corner.

pfeeeh. Ok, so it seems that I should go for Sigma, I was talking today with a guy from service center Pentax Moscow, and he said that they will not honour pentax warranty from other country (he had doubts about international), and the SDM faults, most of them are burned engines, are expensive stuff.

Because of that I think that going with Sigma as a start should be a good option... waiting for other opinions though...

I got the Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM II and I'm really happy, not counting my failing AF(fails completely occasionally and speed varies as it's stuck). The service center here in Sweden guesses dirt in the motor based on my description and not on any kind of real motor failure. I should send it in but I use the lens so often I don't want to be without it.
