@Ron It's Aussie rules footy, played on an oval roughly 165m in length and 135m in width. Compare that with a soccer pitch which is 105m by 68m, it's huge! Also, thank you for the encouragement.

Hi Guys , these shots are my first attempt at sports photography , I also have a Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 DL Macro in front of the K-5 and I also agree with Ron's comments , it gets very soft after about 200mm , I had to go throught the Process and Delete a lot of my images that appeared to be soft. A lot of tries were scored by Kids and I timed them well but the equipment let me down the focusing was slow right at the moment of action when I needed it , I had shot taken at F8 so theoretically they should have been sharp , Iso set up 800-1600.

Filled in for a local guy, YMCA Soccer Outreach program. Lots of kids who never played soccer from not great economic circumstances. I had no idea where the ball was going and there were lots of simultaneous games, all needing pictures. I got paid but earned it. DA 12-24 and 50-135 on a damp, hazy morning.

Well eguipement is important for sports. Isolating players isn't easy when they just bunch up together like those kids Nice shots.

Wow that footsy field is big, since a rugby files is only 140x70 meters at max.

Nice shots - the 60~250 is a great lens but in all honestly don't think it is a match to the Sigma when it comes to sports and when used properly...

Shot with the Sigma 100-300/4. Sometimes it's really too long--I like to get the shooter's (w/face), the ball and the goalie in the same shot and that can be hard at 100mm. Next game I'll take the 50-100 also.

As I previously warned, here goes. The series with 8 teams fighting for the U17 championship in Finland started yesterday with a home match against the reigning champion HJK from Helsinki.

I used both the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and Sigma 150-500. The different in IQ was massive and I was quite disappointed in the Sigma's performance. It seems that it just couldn't cope with the heavily overcast day's lighting conditions.

hehe it is funny since she did noticed at some point I was following her. I just had the idea to make a series, so then you need some different things. Also covered the other players in the field

It doesn't look as cold this time. Well that sigma does go up to f6.3 (probably already at 320mm) so that gives a lot less light to the AF-sensor to work with. The metering from your camera when for instance you put your Tamron on it and set it at 200mm and f6.3 will still be done at the max opening from diafragma from the lens at f2.8

Not that cold any more, snow's already gone but nex weekend we're heading 650 km up north and their spring is a couple of weeks behind ours. And the weather forcast is quite crappy, but we'll see.

What I meant about the Sigma is that I've taken much better pictures with it in sunnier weather but with similar shutter speeds and aperture settings. Somehow the pictures just weren't as sharp now as last autumn when I used it more. I don't know, maybe I'll just trade it for something better. I'd hate to lose the 500 mm reach, though. I wonder if the Bigma would be that much sharper...
