There is another publication coming and I also put in my K-01 in one off the images. So who knows, maybe that makes it to the paper aswell.

JPEGs out of the K-5 is awesome. One can still do PP on them using PS or LR if required. So for Sports photography I drop the photo size to 6 MP. This way i can get more number of shots before the buffer fills up.

I found that for my purposes I get better quality using full-resolution (16MP) 1-star JPEGS, rather than 6MP images with a higher JPEG quality setting. This still cuts the image size down to about 1/4 of the 3-star size, while retaining surprisingly good IQ. The 6MP images just don't seem to look the same as those from a native 6MP sensor, such as my former K100D Super. The JPEG engine does a good job when it's given every single pixel to work with.

You got some nice photos. I think if you took the same shots (using the 70-200/2.8 or DA*300/4) stopped down by only ~1/3 or 2/3 stop (1 stop at the most) you might like the results even better.

[EDIT: Upon further examination, I realize what I wrote above only applies to a certain number of the photos. It may even be that you took them around the time of other photos that you wanted a narrower aperture on. But I know you can get rather stunning results from the DA*300 at f/4.5, for example, and you should take full advantage of that. Are you using both cameras with a different lens on each? Although bulky, I find it necessary much of the time.]

[Naturally this requires that the AF accuracy is close on the K-5 (and you may need to do an AF Fine Adjust), but the end-product is worth it - especially when you already have such fine lenses.]

Hi Dave, what a coincidence.
I provide sound for a few of these events around Southern Cal, for the schools in the group that don't have a decent sound system for the competitions.
I have a few more between now and April, the next one is end of this month in West Covina.

I will try your suggestions, and see what happens. If AF is off it is usually my fault
I thought the DA*300 might be a bit long for the gyms but I'll bring it along next time and see how it works out.

One of my K-5's is at Chris getting a warranty CLA, so I only had one body and the Sigma 70-200 and Tamron 28-75.
With all the speakers, mixers, and cables I need to carry for the sound systems I don't really have mch space for extra camera equipment.
Taking pics isn't my first priority at these gigs, but I may just attend a few I'm not working to have more flexibility and be able to concentrate on the picture taking.

We had a big game at school last week and I shot the first half using the K5 and Tamron 70-200. I'm looking forward to getting the Sigma 70-200 (with HSM but not OS) in the mail next week to compare to the Tamron. Saw one on eBay at a good price and managed to get it. The quieter operation of the HSM should be nice for shooting plays and other events in the auditorium. Hoping the AF is faster as well. Anyway, after comparing I'll probably be selling a lens in a couple of weeks. Here are some shots from the game last week.

So I was busy for more then a month, but tomorrow I'm starting again with taking some sportsimages. I hope I still know how. Also just got a good conversation with a beachvolleyball player and we are going to make some nice images in the very near future. Same goes for a synchronized swimming duet, for wich I made some appointments a week ago. Next friday a good conversation about making a photobook (a real one) about womenssoccer and I don't know how that is going to be (we had a first appointment in november and it is crunchtime, so either there is money for a book or not!).
