What's exciting for me:

K5 means that the price of the K7 will go down and I will pick up a 2nd K7.

But what if they enjoy that as well as taking photos, maybe even more, aren't they allowed to do that?

okay, everybody, rush over to the falk lumo site. he's done his write up and notes at the end that the k5 was awarded one of the photokina star awards. kind of impressive given the ham-handed, marx brothers comedy re the release of specs and pricing.

Wonderful... this means that the "MSRP" will not plummet in near future.

this means a lot more complaining. when will the K-5 be priced under $1,000?

all i want to ask is.

1) is the shutter lag vastly improved as it was on the K20D?

2) maximum buffer-to-card write speed?

3) does it show in percentage how much battery power is left?

4) how smart is the p-ttl now?

5) is it Continuous SR now or still have to half shutter and wait for the icon?

Three cheers for Pentax!

The K-5 seems to be an outstanding camera. It's a work of engineering art. I will certainly buy one, sooner rather than later.

I love my K-7 and had presumed I would stick with it for years. High ISO wasn't something I really cared about but after starting to shoot longer glass, there are times when cleaner high ISO would be really useful. If the K-5 builds on everything I like about the K-7, it would be hard to pass it up.... Looking forward to seeing the reviews.

....the K-5 is the answer. I have a K20D as my main camera and a K-10D as backup - it's nice to be able to share the grip and I do use the dark-frame subtraction method for long exposures on the K10D. The improved features of the K-5 may have me replace the K10D with one.

As part of my job I take photographs of industrial equipment in dirty (polluted, wet and dusty) environments. I discovered the value of weatherproofing in DSLRs after killing a couple of camcorders with a corrosive alkali dust. Plus, I have a forty-year relationship with Pentax and my own collection of legacy lenses.

Mike
I am in a very similar boat, though my relationship is more like 36 years. I did not upgrade to the K7 because of the shared accessories between my last-generation models, but I might sell both the K10d and K20d if the K5 pans out as good as it sounds. The AA grip for the K5 and K7 is a killer idea.

Have you read GordonBGood's assessment of the K5 at dpreview?
He says, it is the new DR king, with over 14 EV DR.

Klapping hands!

2. Nikon D700
3. Canon 5D Mark II

But note, this refers to low ISO dynamic range only.
At high ISOs it is probably going into reverse.
But we should wait for the final camera with final software for final judgement.

Wow, 14.375 stops of DR at 8MP would break a new record on the DXOmark. I can't wait to see 1:1 visual comparisons against the old sensors.
