Have you read GordonBGood's assessment of the K5 at dpreview?
He says, it is the new DR king, with over 14 EV DR.
I just want to bring to your attention:

I am aware of this info but do not (yet) endorse it in my preview article. My current best guess still is 13 +/- 0.5 EV which is a fantastic value indeed.

I am currently in the process with Gordon to clarify a few things. Don't get me wrong: I don't say Gordon is wrong. But it may be too early to rely on this early preliminary result.

Klapping hands!
over 14 EV DR? I thought it was only as good as the D700's DR?

so does that mean it's 2 stops over the D700 which would equate to better IQ (ISO 3200 of K-5 versus ISO 12,800 of the D700) with pushed exposure? providing that ISO 3200 of the K-5 is just as good as that of the D700's ISO 3200. this is with regards to HIGH ISO IQ of course.

2. Nikon D700
3. Canon 5D Mark II

But note, this refers to low ISO dynamic range only.
At high ISOs it is probably going into reverse.
But we should wait for the final camera with final software for final judgement.
ooppssss...kinda late reading your follow-up. however, I think it's still better if that was the case.

Just put the K-5 in pre-order in the Netherlands for 1199 euro (I bought the K-7 also out of pre-order in the first week for 1149 euro) and I expect it to drop the price maybe even to 1149 by the time of arrival.

Just for all you guys, because I don't care: the pre-order price for the D7000 is 1189 euro, so you only pay 10 euro for incamera SR.

Seems a good deal to me.

All indications are that this is a monster sensor that Sony has come up with, and that goes for all the cameras that will be using it.

Nice- finally a store indicated the "correct" pricing. You should definitely post a link over at the price watch section!

I pre-order the K-5 (house only) for around 1100 euro in Sweden.
Earlier this week I sent my DA* 50-135 for repair (SDM failure). Will cost me 150 euro including return shipping. Fair price I belive.

Except you probably shouldn't be having an SDM failure.

Yes of course. It has really been a pain in the a**. Such an expensive lens that broke down. I've used it on my K10D with downgraded firmware with screwdrive AF. But with a new camera that's impossible.

I expected the repair to be overly expensive - so I've been looking for a replacement lens. But looking at Sigma and Tamron and realize that they're not as good made me send the DA* to repair and I got surprised with the cost.

So hopefully I'll will soon have a really great combo with the K-5 and DA*-lens

You shouldn't, the motor is cheap. You mostly pay man-hour work and it's probably taking less than one hour to replace it.

It's cameranu.nl and I bought last year the K-7 and before the K20D. It's mainly internetshop, but I always visit the store.

I seldom use flash and I am a High ISO shooter. The K-5 is the ideal upgrade for my K-x.
I hope that the price will go lower so that I can afford it instead of going for the D-7000.
The SDXC is also what I want and with a 2TB SDXC, I can record a lot of videos in K-5 and shoot a lot of photos.

Interesting. If I deduct VAT and convert €, I obtain the following prices (body only) from that shop in USD:

D300s / D7000 / K-5: $1335 / $1362 / $1373

All very close and under $1399.
