What bothers me about Pentax and the new K5

What bothers me about Pentax and the new K-5.

Wow what a wonderful Pentax DSLR K-5 camera I have had in my hands for the last five days.

Quite honestly it knocks the competition straight back on their ass with a "wow" factor. How did Hoya/Pentax do that ? !!!!!!!!

But what really bothers me in thought is why Pentax would not advertise through the media.

Pentax breaks out the limited Pro 645 D and then the Pro-sumer k-7/ then the simply fantastic K-5.

Which very simply "Sit's Canon and Nikon Straight back on their ass" !
Quite simply Pentax/Hoya are "selling themselves short by not advertising"

We all have stood by and behind Pentax and have understood the backward and forward lens compatibility.

Why is Hoya/Pentax selling us short?

What is everyone in this forum thinking?

Pentax would be a lot more successful if the marketing department lived in the present.

Pentax has had a long history to releasing products without fanfare and just letting their products be discovered by their target consumers. Pentax has never advertised their cameras in the same way canon and Nikon do...the only company I would say are worse at advertising than pentax is Leica and cosina.

Adam,

You want to know another thing that really bothers me and quite confuses me.

Pentax/Hoya Technology lives in the present but the marketing practice lives in the past.

Why does it bother you? Who cares if everyone else doesn't know about it. Is there some need to be on the "winning side"?

Leica is one that I agree with "to die for equipment" Unfortunately they just do not fit the bill in today's society and needs. Really great stuff but they just do not fit the bill. Cosina is not anywhere in there. They wont make the grade.

Pentax/Hoya made the grade and they fit in with the consumer and "photographer" bill.

Personally I'd prefer seeing decent product development rather then competing with companies that have much deeper pockets for advertising wars. Product reputation is the best marketing tool a company can have.

Actually, Asahi Optical would be mopping up with this camera.

Nothing,

It has to do with the working side.

Do you work as a photographer? I do! Think about it.

My thoughts are. You will reply with something you will know nothing about!

Looks like they advertise a lot more on Japan than in the west, though.

I saw they have 10% market share on DSLR there. That's quite a feat for a company that was "dead".

If there's someone doing a bad job, it's their overseas representation in US/Canada.
