Got a late price for the K5 ... $1595 taxes included!

That works out to approximately $1400 Cdn plus taxes.

Not bad?

JP
with tax included? of course.

hmmm....is this why futureshop/best buy now charge a lot for recycling fees? I still don't get it or it's relevance. I haven't really bought something real expensive at futureshop as it would cost me a lot than the advertised price. like a $1,000 would cost you $1,400 after taxes + recycling fees on god knows where it came from. I buy elsewhere which doesn't have these fees. nowadays, my first option would be to look for a used one on the marketplace or locally for cheap. second option would be to buy in stores that are known to sell cheap and offer the same type of services.

pardon me for asking, but futureshop doing a commission based profit, right?
the recycling fees are coutesy of the gov't. any large chain will charge them as they have to pay them. small indies frequently don't collect it but a tax audit could also bankrupt them. the enviro fees have been in some markets for quite a while (alberta was the first i believe)
the current ontario ones are a mess but for large electronics they came in long before the current mess and that's why you see them being charged

Oh...found out that Henry's Canada does price matching..

You will need proof that the competitor has the camera in stock. I just price matched in Ontario for a price in BC.

It seems that the price isn't dropping as fast as others (e.g. Nikon D7000). You can get D7000 + 18-105 for $1499. uhmmm...

that's because the k5 is a better camera. Realistically it should cost more it's far better built aside from other issues.
the Nikon 18-105 is supposed to be a pretty good kit lens though
the k5 is supposed to start shipping with the 18-135 as a kit, but i thought I'd seen 1999 which is a pretty big jump from this price ( fully WR though, longer lens and still a better camera IMHO so likely worth the difference if you are just starting, or have pentax lenses already, a harder decision if you already have some good Nikon lenses-not just kit zooms)

I agree. Many of the other retailers will price match, as long as it is regional. In other words, for us in BC, they will match a local store's advertised price, but won't match Henry's or prodigital. It is helpful to have local support (although after a period of time, support from Pentax Canada will take over).

It's not.... although optically it's an OK lens, it's probably one of the slowest-focusing AF-S Nikon lenses... it's just plain sluggish... In this range only 16-85 is worth looking at, but price wise it's in the same league as Pentax's 18-135 which is a much better lens overall...
