Wow, looking forward to more info. Fast AF is the one thing that would make me buy earlier than I had planned.

I've actually drafted a survey, not to be posted yet, about K5 complaints from non-owners ...
Thank`s, I almost choked in my beer when I read this.

Just you wait .... there WILL be lots of folks here complaining about this and that about the K5 and, with almost 100% certainty, they will be non-owners.
Same happened with the K20D, K7, Kx, etc .. !

maybe the Forum need to have some settings implemented to allow only real owners posting complaints

You have to remember that some people have to explain why they aren't buying the latest, greatest camera (maybe just to themselves). Those will do so by explaining how the camera isn't really that much different from the K7 or K20 or whichever camera they have. And that's fine, as long as everyone knows they are casting stones from afar, without any personal information. Ogl... Ogl?

Would be very good if we can get a confirmation that 16-50 and 50-135 are a lot faster on K5. Anybody ?
This problem affects me too. Also because I'm seriously thinking of taking the K-5 with these two lenses!
Bye

sorry, maybe I posting in the wrong thread. Is the K-r AF speed as good as fellow Pentaxians report on the K-5, or at least faster than K-x, K-7?

Thanks

Yep, its in my grubby paws. I will just state the most impressive thing so far that I didn't expect.

THE AF IS NOW FREAKY FAST!

At least on my (SDM) da*300 , which takes its sweet time on the K20D but on the K5 its BAM! Focused. I did not expect such a huge improvement. Its REALLY fast.
Sounds VERY promising, thanks!

It would be really great if you could find time for some more low-light AF-lock tests, especially with a high-aperture prime, (and maybe some tracking tests,) then look closely at the results for focus.

Sometimes 'feels faster' can be just getting used to a new motor sound, or a new algorithm may be at work that truncates the micro-adjust sequence for lock time at the expense of accuracy.

I really, really don't want that to be the case, because my Limiteds are screaming at me to get this camera , but AF-lock speed has to be at a new level for me to justify it.

Lee...I'll be interested in seeing it perform in high ISO with some of the long glass you have. Looks promising.

As a non-owner, i have one complaint about the K5, i.e. I DON'T HAVE IT - YET

Seriously, is the new K5 shutter noise quieter than my K20??? Its important to me!!

thanks, Phil

I can certainly add to the statement already made after the outing today that AF is significantly improved. Yes, even in low light situations. No hunting and uncertainty that we are so used to for Pentax AF. This coupled with customizable selection of shutter or focus priority makes it just so sweet.

Cool. More confirmation that the AF hype for the K-5 is actually an understatement. There's a lot to appreciate about the K-5. Thanks for the input fellas.

It would be nice if someone could do a comprehensive AF-C test once they have gotten over the initial "play" stage
