I think if you own the FA 35 already, there is no point to buying this lens -- there don't seem to be big differences, but there are a whole lot of folks who don't own the FA 35 and who can't afford the 500 dollar price tag it currently commands. The fact that the DA 35 will sell for a hair under 200 dollars seems to be a good deal to me. For those who need, can afford, the extra quality, going up to the FA 31 seems to be the only way to really beat the IQ here.

I don't know that the DA 35 limited "beats" the image quality here. it is just a very different lens. All metal construction and the ability to do macro. I own it and wouldn't trade it for anything, but I have a feeling that those who want the FA 31, wouldn't be interested in the DA 35 limited either.

I just posted a not-so-scientific comparison test between DAL35/FA35/DA35M/A35 here :

I think this new lens will help out the people who can't afford the price of the FA/DA fast glass. I know I wish I had a copy of the FA35, but since I don't, this lens will be a very welcome sight indeed.

Wow, I am not sure if you just sold me the DAL35 or the K-5, but as I already have the DA35Ltd, I guess I'll have to go for the new camera.

Very nice shots from what seems a very nice combo.

That's also the reason why I started drooling on this lens since it was announced. I've long been wanted to have a lens with FL of 40 and below but I've no budget for such AF lenses the like of FA 35/2, DA 35/2.8 macro and much more the FA 31 limited.

And now that I finally see the results of this lens, I'm really vent on having this baby on my lens line-up.

Will Pentax also come with F2.X prime in 70-80 mm focal range at more entry level price?

That is actually a very good question. I wonder if they would? I would also be in line (although I may spring for the DA 70mm).

Frank, thanks a lot for sharing the images. Great bokeh, plenty of sharpness and, may I add, some nice photographs.

You've made me change my mind about this lens.

Thanks!
