Yeah the da 18-135 pirce is around $800, i will be buying body only.
I am thinking I will buy the 18-55WR kit because I have a superzoom already, all I need is an inexpensive WR lens for when it rains...

Sometimes I wonder how much money Aussie retailers and distributors have lost because they still think we are stupid

Can I blame the mining boom?

I wont be getting the K5. cause Ive only jus bought a K7....but I would still buy the K7 as the K5 is out of my pocket book range and I don't think its documented improvements will affect me too much,

if I had a 4-5 year old DSLR I might give it a look...but even then the K7 is a much better priced tool for an average Joe like me

I got no probs buying Lenses OS , without a warranty..but a body has much more that could go wrong with it....If the saving was $1000 au..then I might, but as the K5 is over the $1000 au import level, your going to get stung with GST Id reckon

too be honest mate..I doubt that CR Kennedy gets the gear for the same prices the distributors in the US do..we are a very small market and as such we suffer the higer prices...Id expect all the other countrys in the world with a small market do the same..

I said in another post somewhere on the forum that CRK will beat any grey import or overseas prices on the sigma line up, it must be a factory backed deal to allow that to happen..

Mining Boom

thank God for that , otherwise we Aussies would be up shit creek by now !!

I think buying local might be worth it this round vs American prices - but we just don't know the prices yet. Also Singapore is likely cheapest.

I'll be doing the maths that's for sure

We are a small but RICH market. Have been for many decades. That's the bottom line why CRK (and local Nikon etc) keep their prices high.

People like CRK have been in the business for ages, have good, long-standing relationships with Pentax, Sigma etc, and would buy at global prices, if not get preferred deals from the likes of Pentax or Sigma due to CRK actually doing a reasonably good job of pushing Pentax in AU. So they just buy low and sell high in AU because we are rich, and pocket the margin.

Same here. Upgrading from my k-x. I will be traveling through Singapore airport in three weeks time and check out the prices. Wouldn't mind purchasing locally though.

Guess my travels in Apr next year may give me back the GST if I can hold out that long..

Or an import from B&H or another online sale company may be the solution if I can't wait and the AUD$ options are too high...

Whinge time:

Don't these Aussie companies realise that we have internet and can look thing up? I don't mind people making money but don't rip me off!

I checked out what little Pentax gear they had at the Airport there and was surprised to find duty free prices above what I can get from B&H

For me it will be B&H if the price here is extreme.

Vanbar has camera on pre order for A$1599

B&H Photo Video has camera listed US$1599.95

Assuming AUD-USD parity for the next month or so, doesn't that mean the camera is cheaper at Vanbar (by 95 cents, but that's before taking into account GST/duty payable on import)

I hope Vanbar manages to get a group buy thing going at a further discount - I would sign up for that.

Well let us know if a group buy is going to happen. I'm sure we wouldn't be the only ones intereted in picking up a K-5 for what it's worth...
