I wont be getting the K5. cause Ive only jus bought a K7....but I would still buy the K7 as the K5 is out of my pocket book range and I don't think its documented improvements will affect me too much,

if I had a 4-5 year old DSLR I might give it a look...but even then the K7 is a much better priced tool for an average Joe like me
I second this. I bought my K-7 just about a year ago (upgraded from the k100D) and feel that it is too "early" for me to upgrade to a new model this time. Like you, I feel the K-7 is still good enuf for an "average joe" like me

High ISO of the K-5 is great and i must admit damn tempting for me to upgrade...but i review all the photos i took in the past year or so, i find that i seldom take pics in a high iso type of environment (most are landscape and night photos with long exposures < 30sec) and i am not an action shooter too. So I will prolly continue to use my K-7 and improve my skills and use the funds to get new lenses instead.

I think i might upgrade to K-5 prolly in a years time That being said, i am not sure how i am going to resist temptations after seeing all the great K-5 photos..i might just cave in one day

LOL
I might upgrade..but it will probably be a K4 or K3...if they keep naming cameras this way..Gee the K1 should be worth the wait....it will be 3d or somint....

seriously.... I'm like you Raider...my images thus far have been landscapes etc...but my lack of lenses may be dictating what I shoot at the mo....a nice 2.8 70-200 might change what I'm shooting.....and Id still like a 100mmWR macro...soon be Christmas...perhaps the Kids might help old Dad out some.....too many poxy synergy bills keeping me poor !!

That's quite an attractive price. Have we ever seen prices so comparable to those from the US before?

(I think I'll pipe down now to avoid jinxing it...)

really bad reason to add this hefty premium onto cameras for Australian consumers....
just because the market is smaller??

Economies of scale favour the US, but monopolisation of the more malleable Aussie market subjects the end customer to manipulation.

Let's just e thankful the K-5 isn't fancifully priced here - I just hope the prices fall, not rise, with time...

You will be surprised, JB Hifi listed K-x single lens kit for $777 when it first came out, want to know how much they charge now, 11months after it was released? $795...

Huh? JBHifi in fact have the K-x listed for $693 right now:
Pentax 12.4mp Digital SLR - Digital Cameras - JB Hi-Fi

And you could easily bargain them down more in store, I bet.

at this point in time I prefer to spend my hard earned on better glass, the K7 will tide me over until the next Pentax release, I honestly believe that if you have a K7, then you best of waiting until 18 months....the K5 will either be way cheaper, or the next new and better body will have been released.

If I invest In DA* glass and Penatx bring out a FF body, Id not be happy......

It's interesting how they mark their price in store...or maybe I was seeing things....

But yeah, they do let you haggle.

I found out the Singapore price... Its cheap but probably not cheap enough.

$1200 + $150 deposit (AUD) body only with insured delivery and 1 yr return to Singapore warranty. That's from Emjay

This makes it $250 cheaper than anywhere in Australia so far, but not sure how much you'd have to pay on customs for over 1k import?

So imo its about $100 too much to be worth the hassle.

That's a nice price for if you are travelling through there.
Bulk buy from Singapore? (to cut postage cost and duty...)
