K5 at DCW

I spoke to Sales manger at DCW ( Digital Camera Warehouse) and they are taking orders for the K5 at $1635 body only. However, she indicated that they did not expect availability till late Nov or early Dec.

***If there is a group buy going I would be willing to sign up.

Discussion about buying from B&H etc, one thing to remember, the price is over AU$1000, so to get item into the country, particularly by mail etc., all custom duty and tariffs are applied.
I can't tell you what that amounts to but no small amount to be added on.

I'd probably be in that, too, Bruce, if the price was right. I'm not looking to buy lenses, just the body.

I'm looking for a body only. But I want to have my cake and eat it too: I would like the camera before Christmas for holiday snaps, but i'm not excited by the price at the moment. Here's to a big price drop before Christmas!!!

I'd be interested in a body-only group buy.

Is anyone able to tell us import tariffs on over $1k products? I would be interested in getting one even from USA if the dollar stays strong!

Also, how does buying from overseas (America, Singapore, etc) affect warranty? Does it come with an international warranty direct from Pentax?

Finally, what do people know about possible "grey market" sellers such as Ebay sellers from Hong Kong? I'm talking not only about the K-5 but also for other Pentax and aftermarket accessories...

Thanks for your help! Glad to be amongst the Australian Pentaxians! (*except for the $$$ disadvantage of course!)

Bruce it's about 10% - a significant import duty. Not good for individual purchases (or group ones for that matter). DCW on the other hand have a reasonably comparable price for the K-5 which brings me one step closer to ordering one...

Those of you who are interested in a group buy, email lachie (at) vanbar.com.au to express your interest.

I did, and got a reply back saying he's working on it :-) He still has no ETA for when the K-5 will arrive in the country though.

Would be good to know Vanbar's group purchase price. And what of kit lens deals? Should be some exciting things to hear about in the next few weeks...

There should be 0% duty and tariff charged on photographic equipment imported into Australia, so you shouldn't have to worry about that. However, goods with a value of A$1000 or more will be charged 10% GST by Customs (although it can be up to their discretion, so they might let something say, $1050 through), and depending on who is shipping the goods (it's usually the courier companies that do this), the shipping company may impose additional brokerage/clearance fees on top of that. More info can be found on the Customs site here.

Correctomundo :-)

I deliberately did not create a well formed email to prevent spambots from harvesting the address.

Thanks both. Perhaps it would have been better if I had Pm'd you instead Christine.

Anyway, thanks and regards.

Just tried to send to lachie - no known recipient... sent to sales instead.

Let us know if you get any luck with sending the request to the right person at Vanbar.

Pls keep updating this thread with any group buy news.

It's interesting that Vanbar are the only local retailers who get into this. But I guess Vanbar are (accidentally perhaps) the only local retailer who has anyone who hangs around online on forums like OCAU.
