At last... my K5 arrived and has been picked up. S/N is also 3928xxxxxxxxx. Just waiting for the battery to charge. Guess it might get a workout tomorrow and over the weekend - I'm off bushwalking for two days. No doubt I'll annoy the others by taking photos at every opportunity..

No moneybags here Only a CC I'm going to have to do some serious work on. I'll be advertising my other gear soonish.

It feels good, though, Simon. I don't think you should waste time getting one, your shots will shine even more than they already do.

'Exiftool' should work (unmaccy, being command line, of course ), see:

LOL fair enough! You should be able to make a fair chunk selling your other 2 bodies

Dont worry im not wasting anytime, i will be getting the K-5 as soon as there is enough in the money pit.Im hoping by the end of this month or begining of next month. It makes it even harder to save when bills dont stop coming!

Ive already bought a generic battery and charger for it

Look deep into my eyes, deeper, deeper, repeat after me, you don't want a K5, you don't want any Pentax camera, you don't even want these worthless lenses any more, you want to give them away to some other worthy K5 owner, give....... them....to...me........
Ok your awake now and you don't remember anything.

OK tried that, HUGE amount of info, more than I wanted, but still no manufacture date for the camera. The only dates in the output were relating to the file itself.

Might have to install Windows in a virtualbox just so I can use photome. Wonder if it works in crossover...

I could not get the terminal instruction to find the file, so I used the droplets availabel from anotehr linked site in that same thread, they use exiftool, just saves us non-tech types from having to do the commandline stuff.

No manufacturer info at all. Initially I thought it was because when I dragged it out of iphoto, SL autmatically converted to jpg: I thought info must have been dropped. so I dragged out from the original file a DNG in its native state and got the same info. exiftool was able to identify the lens used, and the camera used, but no manufacture date.
