I have a large tax refund cheque arriving any day now. So today I ordered a new K-5 with 18-135mm lens kit.
After searching the Internet for the best price I ordered it from Ryda for $2288.85. I can cancel the order if the price goes up and Ryda will price match any Australian retailer.
I was informed that they are expecting deliveries in the next 2 weeks.
The staff in the Parramatta road store no nothing of this camera and had to refer all my questions to the manager. They are basically just counter sales staff and all orders must be done via the internet.
So now all i have to do is wait for my new toy.

For all those waiting for a price drop I think you will be waiting for quite a while. In Australia Pentax cameras and lenses are more expensive than in the US. Yet the K-5 is about the same price. It is $300 cheaper than the Nikon D7000, almost the reverse of the pricing in the US.
I am predicting the K-5 will be a huge success for Pentax and demand will remain high and so will the price.

Congrats Peter, keep us posted on how you like K-5.

I am thinking of getting one to replace my K-x too but it will have to be some time next year by the look of things.

But I agree the price of K-5 is unlikely to fall all that much locally... K-7 w/ 18-55 is still $1300 at DCW.. 18months after it was released and replacement model imminent...

I noticed that too.
Enjoy your K-5.

The K-5 will be on my menu too, I think, post Xmas. I skipped the K-7, but I am running out of reasons to skip the K-5.

Went to my local Paxton's earlier tonight and they quote me K-5 body only option for $1799, not the best but they do let you haggle, ETA end of the month.

They have a white K-r just came in this morning and the manager opened the box and let me played around with it a little bit before putting it on the shelf. AF is indeed faster and the manager made the comment of the noise at ISO6400 is comparable to his D700, good to know but still irrelevant for me because I have my eye set on K-5 and he know it.

I will wait till around Christmas and see if I can get a good price for K-5 body, maybe get them to price match DCW, good thing about Paxton's is that they can do interest free purchase for me so I might just do that.

Or, friend of mine is coming to Sydney in a 2 weeks time and will be stopping by Singapore airport, if they price of K-5 at the airport is around AUD$1300 I might just ask him to bring me one, but I am not holding my breath.

Or. I can just forget about all these CBA and extend the service period of my K-x for another 6months and wait for the price drop. Not gonna be easy with all the wonderful sample shot of K-5 around....(Note to self, choose this one!)

Interesting. I note DCW list the D7000 for $1699 body only. Australia is one of those markets where the K-5 undercuts the D7000. I suppose this means we won't be seeing any K-5 rebates in Australia anytime soon.

Nor a price cut. I am already eyeing my lens collection to see which ones can go to fund the purchase of K-5....

Pentax bodies and even the DA limited primes always seem pretty well priced in Australia considering our 10% gst. It's the DA & DA* zooms that are crazy expensive compared to the US.
