The pentax K-5 has made an appearance here in adelaide, and In all probability I will have one tomorrow. I'll be handing in My K7 - I really wasn't happy with it, as a camera it is physically excellent, but the sensor let the whole thing down at base ISO. Especially in comparison to the K10, the K10 had much less noise in the shadows. but on the flipside the K10 couldn't do ISO1600 without giving you an ungodly noisy image to clean up.

I think I started a trend with quoting the devils dictionary...

are you trading in the K7 ?...if so did you get a good deal..the best i've been able to do is $700 trade in on a $1699 K5..my K7 is only two months old Paid $1350 for it ...but the low light performance has me now wanting a K5 ..... I've just started a thread asking for low light High ISO images from a K5 ...to help me decide to burn about $650 that I will lose in the deal

I just collected my K5 and the battery is on charge.. (Useless K10D batteries aren't any good... LOL - It was a great camera up until 3 hours ago....)

Won't be able to do anything really till the weekend.

Got mine at DCW

Price $1629 I rang them as they have limited stock (as do some other places) they had to register it into their store for me to collect. I had pre ordered. I did point out that Vanbar has them at about $ 20 under their price ... No price change requested as I paid on credit

Digidirect in town had 3 earlier today and will price match.. 1629...

Shall be back! Someone has to do my work and I can't find anyone else....

It seems like every local retailer is experiencing very healthy demand for the K-5.

I wonder how many An-124's CRK has got booked in order to fly enough K-5's in to meet local demand.

Bah Now I'm cranky!

Got this email today from DCW

Hi Ben,

I just wanted to let you know that we do not have stock of the Pentax K5 we are expecting new stock to arrive at the warehouse on 29/11/2010. We will update you if there are any further delays.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us on 1300 365 220.

Kind Regards,

Might have to cancel and go hunt elsewhere.... What is everyone paying in OZ? $1629 at DCW.
Oddly, a K5 with my name on it turned up by courier at work today, from DCW - dunno what their caper is....

Geez, there'll be a learning curve compared to my DS...

That overloading was what snuffed out that Qantas A380 engine the other day.

Good going Ben.
I'm sure it won't be as daunting as it looks - the UI is pretty intuitive.
Enjoy the camera.

Fossil is very happy and would recommend the K5! The quantum leap from K10D to K5 is huge.

Ben78 is right

7fps NICE
AF Speed NICE
AF Lamp NICE
Tilt sensor NICE
6400iso that works NICE

Tried a few lenses and like what I have tried. Even Slow glass focus's quickly.

The Takumar 135 Prime F2.5 seems it will be a keeper, I was thinking of selling it and a couple of others to help fund the 18 - 135 WR...

Guess I will have to see the results and find the funds some where else..

Cheers
Rod

(not going to share the photos of my PC work area which is where the testing has occurred to date. Seems that there are a lot of these types of images anyway..)

Cool. I have that lens. How does it go with a high-res 16MP sensor behind it? I'd love to see a shot taken by the K-5 and the 135/2.5, just to compare the results with the K-x.

I agree fully

was worried a bit about flash after reading a couple of threads on complaints about it but more than happy when using my AF540 with the K-5

I am looking forward to getting out and about on the weekend with it

cheers
