Aaagh. I didn't think to ask. Worth a call, but be prepared to pay a bit more than Ryda or Vanbar are advertising. OTOH, they don't have them in stock, so they can advertise any price they like.

Hi All, I have a string of pearls sensor and have been peppering Vanbar and CRK re resolution of problem. Also sent details to Pentax Australia yesterday. Just received the following response:

Dear David,

Currently we do not have the necessary tools available to repair the K5 locally. We believe this to

be the same with all international service agents. Therefore we would need to replace the camera.

The only problem with this is that we currently do not have stock. Therefore there are two options

available.

1. Send your camera to our service centre and have it booked into the repair system. Once a replacement

camera is available we will replace and return.
2. If the stains are not visible or too intrusive with your photography, then keep using it and return

it under the same method as point 1 when there are sufficient stocks of K5.

Thank you
Kind regards,

Good news, I was sure that CRK didn't have the capacity to replace sensors ans wasn't about to send mine over for "Inspection/repair"

It's bloody brilliant camera, I hope this sensor problem doesn't hurt sales too much. I would expect the opposition to make the most of it.

Regards and Merry Xmas

David

Thanks for that, David. It seems to me like a terrific response. A pat on the back for CRK.

I've been looking around for the definitive method of testing for the problem, but haven't been able to find it. Any hints?

Happy Xmas to you too. I realised today that it's only two weeks away. Aaagh.

Blue sky or a plain white wall/paper f16+ usually and keep the ISO low (don't need too much noise) over expose about 1.5 stops to get rid of the 18% grey.

The string of pearls is quite obvious if it's there.

See my attached sample.

Good Luck

Thanks, David. Very obvious in your shot. Blue sky? Melbourne? Wait 5 minutes

It looks like I'm lucky. Serial # 3900697.

Update for Christmas, I called crk cause I was after a body and they are saying that the next shipment of bodies might not even fill the current back orders from retailers. So if you are after one make sure the shop actually have some on order otherwise it's after new years until new stock comes. Checked with teds and they have 2 in their syd store and 3 in melb Elizabeth St store and that's it.

In other news, crk is also out of 540FGZ flashes but says stock should be replenished by a shipment next week. If ur after the 18-135mm that will also be after new years unfortunately.

Apparently sales exceeded their expectations, whatever that means.

I got mine from the initial stock at Vanbar. I have found I have two very small dots and only noticed them as a result of all the publicity, and went looking for them. As there is a shortage of replacements I am waiting till the new year and pursue the matter then.
My K5 is turning out top quality stuff, (on my standards, anyway) so I am quite happy at the moment.

Thanks for sharing that....Option 2 is just what I was hoping for. I think I'll be ready for that exchange just before the 12 month warranty runs out.

this isn't the thread to be discussing the pearls, we have another 3 plus threads where that is the actual topic.

Actually this thread is the prefect place to discuss CRK's return policy for the K-5 and furthermore I think their return policy is a very good reason to buy local rather than grey.

i must admit I agree. although not too much info on how bad the sensor is ...

also I cant see the point in buying a grey import of this body...its the same price just about everywhere else in the world..plus no expensive postage

lenses on the other hand are another question
