one can't exactly go on a shopping spree for Pentax glass these days with that same extra $300. But for example there is always the 70-200/4 non-IS for ~$600 and it easily stands up to the 60-250, in fact as it as real USM it's gonna be a bit nicer. Only missing part is the IS so you can opt for the 70-200/4 IS for about $1100 new or around $900 used. Or on a budget there is the excellent EF-S 55-250 IS for around $250. It's got a real 4-stop IS though it's micro motor....but it is a great lense.
Only thing is when ya get into lenses to rival the limiteds...but there are zooms which cover what 3-4 primes would and cost about the same as those lenses combined. So it's really all about what a person wants...I so much prefer the images I get with my K20D than I did with my 40D. Right now I am watching if as these new sensors push the ISO envelope as the new buzz word to replace the MP race, but what happens to the low ISO color as well as IQ. Things look pretty sweet so far but remember most people haven't even had their K-5's a full week yet.
But hope is still there, I simply don't trust Hoya. I trusted Pentax without question, as dysfunctional as they were, I loved the company. Hoya, not so much...
Despite that I am willing to wait things out...but when Hoya is charging Canon money for the K-5 I am going to be very suspicious. I feel the same way about Nikon and the D7k, I like better glass and well, Nikon glass makes Canon glass look like it's free. hehehehe....actually I have an eye on an Oly E-5 and ONE of their F2 zoom lenses but that is a real long shot for me.
Right now, even though I am hard on Hoya, it's ONLY about the price and them engineering out tethering from the systems (maybe as we don't know for sure yet) and not the hardware. I even like the K-7 as for my needs it's fine, but the K-5 gets much closer to where I would be with a 7D as an all purpose camera but still the 7D has a lead thanks to being proven as well as a year of being proven under fire.
