K-5, ISO51200 Ownage!

Well we finally made it!

Thanks to dgaies's outstanding patience and contributions, we have managed to explore the entire usable range of the K-5's sensitivity performance.
When I think back and remember no less than 6 months ago(I think), when a Pentax official told me that the new K-5 would give FF a real run for it's money. I can't help but think that had I not see this with my own two eyes, I never would have believed it!

But here it is:

K-5, ISO51200, 1/40s, 85mm, ƒ/5.6 - Click image to view full size

The simple fact is the K-5 generates RAW files with unbelievable amounts of detail. And just when you think you may be nearing a ceiling, you find out there's yet more of it to go!

Anyways... here's the best part....
This file was processed with ACR and Denoise in a SINGLE PASS!
No layering, no masking, no fancy-shmancy anything.

And so, I beleive the proper term here is: 'K-5 OWNAGE!'
I would like to thank everyone for helping out and participating as testing moved along. And I look forward to helping others on these forums reach similar results as well.

Fascinating indeed. May be buying the Topaz Denoise will actually make my K-7 somewhat better technically and prolong its active live even further than I anticipated.

I use Noiseware Pro, not bad at all.
A correctly exposed K-7 shot up to ISO 3200 can be cleaned up quite well. Use RAW, save as a TIF file for NR.
I have rarely been able to clean up a K-7 ISO 6400 shot satisfactorily. Its either still too noisy or too much detail lost.

The nicest thing about this result is that ISO51200 looks to be usable in certain situations. I'm glad it just wasn't a marketing gimmick.

I am having problems trying to duplicate this on my K5 files. I am guessing it's a settings issue.

Would you be so kind as to let us have your exact settings in ACR on import and in Denoise 5.

I tend to get artifacts into the file when using any of the stronger RAW presets in Denoise.

I think both Dgaies and JohnBee are solely responsible for at least 50% of current K-5 sales. I'd like to suggest to Pentax to give them both a K-5 body for free

That's really impressive, but Pentax is still doomed!

But 100% responsible for Topaz Denoise sales to Pentaxians

Now if Pentax got together with Topaz and build it into Prime II (or would that be III)!
