I feel your pain. I got two K5 and returned both. I am running out of adjustment on all my DA lenses and still the focus is blurry in daylight. The flash did not work right at all. Wireless flash was a desaster...did not sync with shutter. Pentax in Colorado suggested I send my 3 day old K5 for service and I said no. I finally switched to Nikon (D7000 for now and maybe wait for the D300s successor). I am impressed how the machine works as specified out of the box. I am also impressed with Nikons flash performance (SB900) I am also impressed with Nikon's seemless integration of the flash and body.
BUT, what I miss in Pentax ( I still have the K7) is its true 7fps in jpeg. The D7000 claims 6fps, but that is in lossy jpeg compression only. Fine jpeg forget it.
I miss my direct command buttons...I think the K7 and the K5 are best on the marked for ergonomics and quality of build...to get close to pentax in Nikon or Canon you have to go to the Pro line at $1000's more.
Can't get everything.
I doubt Pentax will fix any of these issue via firmware....the sporadic (but very prevalent) nature of the problems of the K5 tell me it is hardware (camera build) issue rather than a software screw up. They have sold thousands of these so fa. Apparently a lot of the sold bodies, but not all of them, have these issues. Even the Pentax guy in Colorado suggested I return it and hope the next one I guet will work better....so there you go.
