Olympus just tries to get as much cash as they can from a dying system's loyalists
One can argue this applies to the existing Pentax system as well. Pentax have unique Limited primes and average zooms, Olympus have awesome zooms but few primes. Both have crippled bodies in different ways and uncertain future.
Originally posted by Cannikin There have been reports floating around the Olympus community of comments by Oly officials that the E-5 may be the last, or one of the last 4/3 DSLRs they make. Is so, apparently they feel that 4/3 is not profitable for them enough to justify the cost of keeping them in development/manufacturing, as opposed to putting those resources into micro 4/3.
As it stands, the E-5 definitely does not represent 3 years worth of development over the E-3, and is underspecced and overpriced compared to the competition. Oly seems to be just trying to make a quick buck from diehard loyalists.
Sadly they overestimated the position of 4/3 and tried to outdo Canon/Nikon with their super expensive and oversized pro lenses and bodies. The promised 4/3 advantages never really materialized until m4/3. What a shame. You have to give them credit for being innovative through which Pentax lack.
