The K-5 takes a shower

For those wondering how good the weather seals on the K-5 and DA 18-55 WR are, take a look at this video:

That's impressive and handy to know.

If you get the K-5 dirty, don't bother with your lens pens, lint-free wipes, blower brushes and other wimpy stuff, just hose it down. Or put it in the dishwasher maybe.

That's pretty daring to do on a new K-5.

I guess someone had to try it. I wouldn't have the nerve! Thanks for verifying the weatherproofing.

Good stuff. I like the responsiveness of the camera too.

And you’re right, the second video is even more impressive.
I like how the water runs right off the lens element, without leaving water spots, due to the SP coating.

I was used my K-7 with 16-50 in heavy rain and there was no problems at all. I was wet as frog, but camera worked fine, execpt one problem I had - "river of rain" on my lens.

after the 2nd video carried out by a Pentax representative/employee in the Pentax booth, I want to see Pentax deny any claim due to water damage during the warranty period. I have not read the newest warranty but past warranties specifically tried to exclude water damage while at the same time promoting the camera as sealed, or however you want to read the terms used...but this shows the mean SEALED not resistant. But they cannot continue to be allowed to have it both ways. It either is or isn't and they are indeed responsible for seal failures as they use those same seals to promote their camera.

Fun vids though and they show that it is perfectly safe to rinse off your camera periodically or when having done shoots places like the beach/ocean or other areas with a lot of dust or other things that can accelerate the aging process these seals will eventually experience. But the cleaner you keep the camera the longer the seals will last...and I would use distilled water rather than tap water which has a lot of the same corrosive minerals that ocean water has, even when the water is "purified".
