Amazing. Using the 8Mpx print normalisation, the K-5 has the same DR at ISO800 that the K20D has at ISO100 (3 stops difference): 11.14 EV!

And at ISO80 it is 3 stops above that: 14.12 EV! Shooting in raw, this should significantly reduce the need to use HDR in a landscape situation.

Dan.

Yes, I believe he is referring to the low-level NR (denoted by the different markers on the plots and labeled as "smoothed").

Yep I feel terrible for getting a year old camera with higher FPS, more manual control, better ergonomics, better AF, better video options, more flash selection, and a bigger lens selection.

Haha, I love that they have Pentax's spotting scopes on there. Yep, that would be Pentax's versions of long focal length lenses.

Ok just think about this. I'm 20. Say I photographs things till I am 60. That's 40 years. Say I even invest $1000 a year in cameras. That's 40k in a system. I would love to own every single L lens Canon manufactures....
Choosing system for this reason makes sense only if we assume there will be no new Pentax announcements from now on. I think you can spend more than $1000 each year by buying only new announcements. Five years from now I think we have seen more than ten new lenses and more than five new bodies. I can only imagine what we have then.

Even if there is no new announcements from Pentax from now on it takes 15-20 years to buy all the current K-mount lenses and bodies from Pentax by spendig $1000/year.

Well to be honest I don't think there will be ten new lenses in the next 5 years for Pentax. I've been a Pentax follower for almost 3 years now and I can't think of even 5 lenses that have come out. Also Pentax will probably have more than 5 bodies, seeing how they have released at least as many bodies as lenses in that time period.

And I was just throwing out a random number. It will probably be more than that that I spend a year. I wasn't throwing out the money figure just based on the fact that I want to try and spend that amount of money or whatever, it's just Pentax doesn't have the complete lineup that I want. I was saying I have a large of sum of money that could be invested in a camera system and I don't see Pentax as a place I would want to start putting money in now.

To me personally it just seems like a dead end. I can only go so far with Pentax equipment. I am by no means saying it is bad stuff, it's quite good, but it's not what I am looking for. Maybe if they increase their lens lineup I will give them a second look. I will definitely be keeping an eye on them with the advent of the K-5.

all Pentax needs to do now is to make a DA* f0.95 28mm lens for APSC, for 2 grand, so that it can really claim to compete in low light with FF, as that is all what's missing.

DA 21/3.2 Ltd
DA 35/2.8 Macro Ltd
DA 35/2.4
DA* 50-135/2.8
DA* 55/1.4
DA 55-300/4-5.8
DA* 60-250/4
DA 70/2.4 Ltd
D FA 100/2.8 Macro WR

DA* 300/4
and variours version of 18-55 and 50-200

Lol, FF has 1 stop of noise advantage at ISO's that show now noise in K-5 images! How is this an advantage? 30db SNR is excellent, 24db is very good. K-5 has 24db at 6400 with DR to match, there are not many situations where you need a higher ISO with a moderately fast lens.
Net result is that FF is redundant for the vast majority of consumers, it really should be considered a specialty format like MF was to 35mm in film days. My guesses is that full frame is likely to see a megapixel race now.
The only problem now it that I'm stuck with my lovely k-7 for a while yet.

you take pictures. Some people do more than that.
So you want to make movies? I would suggest buying a movie camera.

Why? Mulitple TV shows are done using 7D and 5D. Why waste a huge amount of money on a camera rig when I can get amazing results with my SLR?
