Putting my 'Pentax is doomed' hat on temporarily , let me say that I hope the upcoming new K-5 firmware doesn't have an impact on the quality of the RAW output from the camera.

Fingers crossed they don't break anything.

Any more attempts to try and make me seem worthless?
You have a K200D with a kit lens.
You have a 7D with a consumer lens.

Yet all you seem to do is harp on about superior Canon glass costing thousands.

Nobody needs to try and make you seem worthless, you are doing fine on your own.

Tsk tsk. We shouldn't judge people on their gear.
It's the photos they produce, not the gear, that counts.

Our colleagues in the other camps are definitely getting a bit narky though with these DXO results.

If you are feeling particularly sensitive to their plight, here's a good chart to show any of your mates who delight in telling you how wonderful the Canon 7D is:

This is the DxO "Print" (8Mpix normalised) comparison that is a bit more flattering to the 7D due to it bigger Mpix figure.

Dan.

When someone ask why you're shooting Pentax we can now com up with a new answer, so instead of answering something like "cause it's cheap" or "I enjoy slow focusing" we can finally say "cause it's the best there is."

Sounds better actually.

"K-5, the best there is." The new slogan.

I don't particularly care if that happens or not. I just want to be treated with a bit more respect from department store staff, camera store staff, other photographers, even workmates when I mention that I'm a Pentax shooter.

Dan
Strange, in Turkish photography clubs I know of I feel like we are treated like mysterious secrets holders, some kind of esoteric photography-geeks, a bit afraid-ed of and respected. Even Nikon fanatics I know of telling me they wish they had a Pentax too. Obviously I wouldn't give a damn about department store staff and newbies, but never had a negative input from them also.

does the d7000 have ISO 80?
if not then it probably won't come up with such a high DR number(since K5 scored their peak performance there and it's the base ISO), maybe it isn't even the same sensor

I think it's pretty interesting that ISO 80 actually offers more DR than ISO 100.

I hope to be able to replace my K10D with the K-5 some time next year, and just the idea of having 2.5 EV more DR than I currently have at ISO 100 is almost incomprehensible. After all, I feel the K10D has a lot of RAW headroom at low ISO.
My thoughts, and seems rather possible, and why did they did not extend it to ISO 50.Reserved for the K3,you bet.

how many of you are happy that pentax went with sony route rather than samsung with their bellwether camera.

Do you really think samsung sensor would have close to score of 80??

I'm dying for you to please quote where I said this. I will be waiting in eager anticipation.

Parliament: D7000 does have ISO 80. Just use ISO 100 and comp it positive and then lower the exposure afterwards. Just don't clip anything. Basically same thing the K-5 or any other camera does to get lower ISO ranges below their base ISO.

Actually the K-5's base ISO is... ISO 80. That's why the enormous DR of 14.1EV is reached at that sensitivity.

Prices will hold for longer, due to demand, which will be higher for this camera than any previous Pentax model. Those who can afford a $1600 camera with on par FF performance might as well pull the trigger.
As I did. No regrets.
