Ok After almost 10,000 Shutter count and about 3 weeks the K5 is holding up well.
Wow, why nobody mentioned K-5 has an auto-pilot mode.

Another post amazed at the 10k shots in 3 weeks...
Are you only shooting sports?
Just curious.

I've just over 12,000 on my K10 that's 2 years old and I have it with me almost every day.

i think its little bit overwheelming.... like the previous question , u must be a pro , if you spent almost 10.000 click in 3 weeks... why you dont buy Nikon 1Ds or Canon IID mark ? its a worthkeeping DSLR for a Profesional Phtographer ,
not playing with high class DSLR and say it work after 10.000 clicks...

I suspect that everyone won't be getting their questions answered by Brendan for another 3 weeks. He's obviously out shooting...

If he shoot often in continuous mode , and I believe so bxcause he complain about the buffer , this could mean he only press the shutter button 1000 times

10,000 in 3 weeks isn't so much. When I was covering Western Canada Fashion Week in September I shot around 9600 frames in 7 days, averaging only an hour and a half a night. This is shooting the model every 2nd step, plus a few when they pose at the end of the runway. Thankfully it's only twice a year.

I hit the buffer on my K7 more times than I can count doing this so a smaller buffer on the K5 would be even more of an issue. Does anyone know how many shots one would get at say ISO1000 or even 1600 would be? And how fast does it clear so a person can view the shot. With the K7 I pretty much had to wait for the collection to end before I could view as the buffer was always waiting to clear.

I've gone through a burn rate like that at an event with lots of action, though never sustained for a full week. I also tend to put the clicks on multiple bodies, though.

Ok, For thoes who know me its easy, To all others, I am a freelance Photojournalist working for a verity of newspapers and Magazines. Ranging from Daily, weekly, monthly and Quarterly.
Shooting everything from Grip-n-grins to fast action and features.
I use 2 bodies (one with a short lens, other with a med-tell normally (think 16-50 and a 70-200) Sports I use a 300 F2.8. Face it Pros do use Pentax, Always have just like the kmount a bit better, what I started with and what I have kept. Yes I have used Pro Nikons and Canons (pool equipment and rentals), Just always migrate back to Pentax, Combined with the fact of my investment I just have not seen the overall need to switch (Till this past spring when I was looking very closely at getting a D3/nikon system, Held off till photokina and till production of the K5, and am very glad I did.
If you look at my history I have always had Higher than average frame counts because of this.
My original *ist-D has around 120K, my K10's both have about 75k/ec (Have 2) my K20 has about 80K and my K7 has almost 90K
In reality my K5 only has about 9000 on it but by the end of this week I will hit 10K as its High-School Sports Semi's and Finals so I'm shooting games 3-4x/week
Also in part to the high count is the fact that the K5 does more FPS in general and WAY more FPS in AF-C mode (averages about 4FPS in AF-C Focus Priority, About 5fps in AF-C Shutter Speed Priority... Side Note this is WAY cool and both are rather accurate.
I am getting more keepers, both because of the AF speed/accuracy but also the Higher ISO makes all the night games I shoot so much better, I can shoot larger DOF and Faster Shutter speed, both insuring less blur (motion/focus)
One last reason is that I am using the K5 more and more over my K7 which I always have w/ me but the results are just that much better.

... and another 10K clicks!!!

Imagine the time taken by reviewing all these images - I can imagine that there would be some PP as well.

Good work Brendan!

Good going Brendan - with such heavy use of your equipment, a documentary on Pentax gear robustness is in the making...

120,000+ actuations on the *ist D... great milestone - that's some good quality gear, Pentax...
