Why not hang onto your K10 for when you need WR, and buy a K-x which would be far better than a K-7 @ 800 & 1600 ISO. I have a K-x and a K-5 and the IQ difference between them is small.

Wow that is definitely an option! I was thinking of giving my K10 to my daughter anyways. This way it is still available to me. Is there much of a difference between the K-x and the K-r?

In image quality no difference at all. There's a few nice new features a K-r has that a K-x doesn't (bigger better LCD, visible AF points in VF, lithium-ion battery) and one new unwelcome "feature" which is reportedly front focus in artifical light.

What do you mean by front focus in artificial? I never heard that before.
I really like my K10 and have had one heck of a lot of hiking miles with(including once falling through the ice in salt water on New Years day but that's a story for another day;-) BTW the weather proofing works! Anyway my only beef was the low light focusing has that been addressed in the new cameras?

Yes much better on new cameras than K10. As for FF on the K-r, just do a search in the K-r sub-forum. I haven't folowed it closely as I don't own a K-r, only a K-x which doesn't seem to be impacted by this problem.

It appears to me that the K-5 price needs to be updated

I think that if these real price would be published the k5 would have way more success (the similar nikon 7000 cost a lot more)

K5 compared to K7?? There just isn't a comparison! I tried side by side and it was like a leap upward.
