Who says the K5 can't take a sharp picture?

One of the biggest things to me, is that they spend quite a bit of time in their reviews of Canon and Nikon products "tweaking settings" to get them the way they want them. Notice with the Nikon 7000 that they shot all of their photos with noise reduction on and off.

On the other hand, with Pentax, they expect everything to be set for them out of the box and need no adjustment to suit their taste. Never mind that jpegs are tweakable, it should have been right from the get go or, its a no-go.

Finally, the body of DP Review's camera reviews is often interesting, but not particularly useful, at least to me. I would far rather read the Online Photographer's review of any camera you can mention. It may not be as technical and mention as many of the filters/other details available in the camera, but TOP treats a camera as a tool to take pictures and shows much more clearly what works and doesn't work on a given camera body.

I don't know, I learned that people here were angry about the DPR K10D review long after that same review had convinced me to choose the camera over its rivals...

....and that's why I get my reviews, suggestions, and advice from this site. I shoot Pentax, and have invested into Pentax glass. I will continue doing so as long as Pentax keeps producing both cameras and lenses. I have no interest in the competition or comparisons with the competition at all. I only care about what Pentax has to offer. So, I only believe user tested reviews from here and other Pentax users.

I was the first kid on the block with a K10d. Months before I learned from DPR what a POS it was. Or rather, in all fairness to that review, it's JPG engine sucked.

The issue of a problem with the RAW conversion for both the Nixon and Pentax has been discussed at the DPreview site.

I like how Richard Butler replied to the complaints by saying that the softness was due to variance in the testing. Well, if there are errors due to variance in the testing, fix your test. That's what "journalists" are supposed to do.

Precisely! What kind of knucklehead would acknowledge flaws in the methodology and then not assure readers that those flaws would be remedied? At this point, I think that we have to await the official review of the K-5 to see is dpr is serious about fixing their testing process at least to the point of giving a fair representation of what the K-5 can do. While I am not convinced that they deliberately seek to make Pentax look bad, I think it is quite possible that they will not go out of their way to make it look good.

Interesting thoughts. I think that it is more of a Canon and Nikon bias. That bias is not limited to dpreview, but is widespread throughout the photographic community for reasons both reasonable and completely ridiculous and unfounded...

The bottom line is that MOST users shoot Canon or Nikon and everyone tends to have a bias towards what they shoot, that's just how it is. I have seen some very blatant pro-Pentax bias on this site (understandably) and have seen the same from Canon and Nikon users on other forums.

I use dpreview to get a good look at the ergo's and functionality of camera bodies and a basic overview of how they work. I think they are useful for that. Just because they are a resource I use to gain knowledge about photographic equipment doesn't mean that I drink their kool-aid either. It's all about common sense and what is important to the particular user.

What I think is when they see both the Pentax K-5 and Nikon D7000 surepass way ahead the Canon 60D, then they tried to make people see that the 60D if not better then is still comparable to the other two . Anyway, the point is they wanted to bring the 60D to be head and shoulder with the D7000 and the K-5, and they already succeeded .

We are going to see bias in all (well, at least, most) reviews, whether that is motor vehicle reviews/comparisons, sewung machines or cameras.
I agree in testing camera bodines a common lens would be an advantage, but since so many cameras are sold as kits, and many users will only see them as kits (at least for for some years) why wouldn't the best test include both a uniform lens test and a test with the most common kit lens for the particular model?
If the camera maker makes great bodies and so-so lenses shouldn't that be a telling point, particularly for first time and relatively inexperienced users? (and vice versa?)

Interesting, but there is a short thread on dpreview about a competition sponsored by Canon. A few posts question the probity of Canon's involvement!

?
Why is the URI that you posted (above) corrupted with 8 asterisks obliterating the essential target domain-name segment and rendering it unusable?

That doesn't seem to happen usually with links that people post here.
