One thing I am noticing, as I look at more images from the K5, is don't worry about the "sharpness" just marvel at the images.
Does anyone agree that this camera really captures that elusuve "Pentax look"?

Here's a video review of the K-5, including knifes. And he concludes that it is VERY SHARP! Extra points for the reviewers' enthusiasm. It also mentions the K-7 and the yet unannounced K-4!!

With the sharpening tools available it's very easy to make almost any image look sharp. So IMHO a stronger AA filter is preferable to avoid artifacts that are almost impossible to fix. A very weak or no AA filter is only great if you look at your pictures at 100% and don't bother the false colors, moiré, maze artifacts, etc.

It's default sharpness of RAW converter. No any special tool.

I don't think my K-5 is outresolving my humble Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 kit lens, even though it was at f/9 (already diffraction limited?). For me this is more than good enough!

Slightly cropped, resized and then sharpened (like I always do for web purposes):

100% crop of the above (with default sharpening applied by ACR):

Been playing with mine since I got it, and decided to play with the low end of the ISO... I know low ISO low speed and small aperture = sharp but still.. wow!

Those are straight JPG's straight from the camera... no colour correction, no sharpening, nothing. For full sized original click on image and select "O"riginal size.

ISO 80, DA55-300, 135mm, 4sec @ f8

1:1 crop

ISO 80, M 50mm, 50mm, 2sec @ f13

1:1 crop

Limited's are nice but K-5's performance made me question if a limited lens is a must to obtain a sharp image. Here an image with Pentax SMC A50mm F1,7 MF +Pentax SMC AF adaptor 1,7xTC
