One example, ISO1600, straight conversion from DNG to JPEG with max size of 1024 by 1024 as set out by Pentax Forums, K-5 with K50 f/1.2 @ f/1.2, AWB (in this instance the room was lit by LCD tv, and 2 small lamps), 1/15s

The K20D would got itself tied in knots with this shot. Colour noise (red tinge everywhere) would have been present, grain would have been a lot more visible, all in all a good 15 mins of PP would have been necessary just to get to this. Time is money and the K-5 is already paying back its €1,200
Do you still have the K20D? Any chance we could see an actual photo comparison of K20D vs K5 rather than a description of what you think the result would be? From what I've seen so far and the DXO results, it looks like the K-5 would be 1.5 stops more sensitive, but 1600 on the K20 does not have the kind of trouble you describe IME.

PS I don't see that the eye is in focus. Focus appears to be on the brow, i.e. ahead of the eye.

Not anymore Dan but I'll see if I can borrow one and do a comparison as you suggested to back up my stated opinion.

I can't lend you mine, too far away. I suspect you're kidding, but if you're serious, I'd really love to see a comparison of K20D vs K-5, at low ISO and high. Maybe you can borrow a K-x or K-r too.

Getting hold of a K20D will be hard enough, never mind a K-x or K-r (Pentax are not sold in Ireland)

Sticking my nose in here. The one incontestable win for the K-5 over the K20 I have found is the increased dynamic range. In shots where the highlights would be hopelessly blown with the K20, the K-5 doesn't break a sweat. The headroom is simply vastly superior in the K-5. I also find colour fidelity to be better in the K-5.

It's an f/1.2 lens. DOF @ 1.2 is only a couple of Angstrom Units.

It's also very difficult to focus until you get the hang of it. I have an A 1.2 lens. The cat pic is great!!

I prefer pics with depth. I see to many that attempt to get everything in focus from 1m to infinity

Thanks Smeggy! Turns out though that I was at fault, I was using the focus confirmation as a guide since I have not got my KatzEye yet and my K-5 was out of calibration. It needed a camera wide setting of -10 to allow the K50 to focus accurately at f/1.2, sorted now though.
