That's not true. I always underexpose by 1 EV. You can gain 5 EV without noise problems.
Not when the shot is done at a high ISO though.

Camera Pentax K-5
Exposure 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture f/8.0
Focal Length 31 mm
ISO Speed 20000
Exposure Bias -1 EV

It really depends on the lighting. The above photo is pretty minimal on the lighting but it Is pretty noisy which is why it's presented as a Black and White. The noise works better as 'grain' in that case.

Like the kitty Jeff -

This one started @ ISO 3200 then with just the pop up flash ISO dropped to 100 - nice -

This is what happens when you try to avoid the watering of the flowers but are too lazy to move far enough away. The little guy in the top left corner just joined the shot I never say him till I looked at the picture.

Thank you Jeff for you support
This shot is fantastic, if you think a year ago, I had the same result with the K-7 at 3200 iso !

OH nooo not another flower
But the highway shot is magic, everything is right, colour, exposure and framing. I'd like to see this on my monitor full screen. This shot is a corker.

Greetings

A couple more - shot during the "Nike 6.0 Expression Session" at this years Dew Tour in OC Maryland. I did not have any anything long with me but did have my trusty Viv'ee 85 1.4 - both shots were in low light, shot with the Viv'ee @ f/2.2, 1600ISO, MF...
