August has been a very foggy month here in San Francisco. That always makes for interesting challenges when shooting long exposures at night: focusing on soft objects, keeping mist off the lens, and keeping the tripod steading in the wind that accompanies the fog bank. I'm learning that a large umbrella can be a great tool for shielding the tripod from wind-shake and keep the mist down to a minimum.
