Rrecently I have been using my Canon 5D in most cases. Today I grabbed my K5 for a exhibition visit, taking only my two favorite focal lengths with me (24/50; 35/80ish in fullframe terms). The Pentax body is just awesome - size, buttons, ergonomics. Everything is where its meant to be, especially with gloves. The stabilization is extremely useful, and I realized how much I have missed it. Same goes for noise-performance.
I wish I could drop the 5D. However, there are two main reasons I want to keep it, though I don’t own the latter, yet:
- a fast 35mm prime
- a 24mm TSE
I’d be fine with the DA*55mm instead of a 85mmF1.8, so no worries here. Does anyone have experiences with the
Sigma 24mmF1.8?
Btw.: This was an exhibition of Margarete Bourke-White. She was truley a gifted photographer. Seeing those pictures, I realized two things:
- Talent beats equipment - use your eyes and inspiration
- Black and white means black and white! A black and white picture is meant to have real blacks and real whites….

I've also bee seriously thinking about going to canon 5D Mark III as well only because of the 24mm Tilt/shift lens , the quality of the optics in this lens is absolutely superb.tack sharp on borders and corners even wideopen, either that or the Nikon D800E with Zeiss 21 or 35 Prime for landscape/seascape shots. but I cannot go past the Compactability and functionality of the Pentax K5. it has awesome Dynamic Range and Noise performance as you have mentioned. Brilliant ergonomics . it's like it's been made to fit my hands with a battery Grip on. I love this camera so much so that I have purchased a 2nd K5 II s for doing my Landscapes.
