Some winter shots from Toronto, which surely will confirm the (U.S.) stereotype of Canada of a land of snow, ice, igloos, etc. You can the heavy load of ice on the trees from the recent ice storm, which then led to many downed branches and power lines:

Thanks FS---Just having a little fun!

NotSteve???? Nice shots of a bad situation, I hate ice storms, so much damage.

FS-All of those could be favorites, but the first one takes the prize, the colors work just perfectly with the bokeh.

Otis brought me this earlier today, and wanted me to a take it to Kinkos and have large posters made that say....

"Winter is Here-Help Feed a Starving Orphan Squirrel"- DONATE TODAY!

I told him this did not look like a starving orphan, more like a baby pig....but he said it was the skinniest squirrel he could find! He said he told him to hide behind a branch so people wouldn't notice his fat belly.........I think it would take a tree trunk to hide that belly!

Managed to get a quick grab of this Jay on the fence....they are hard to shoot, the squirrels and Cardinals run thim off quickly.

Regards & Happy New Year to everyone here! Hope we have as much fun in the new year!

One thing that I do NOT miss ... winter ice storms; saw plenty while in Oklahoma ... ! Merci "Gulf Stream" for our usually mild winters ... J

Thanks for your pictures! As a fellow Torontonian living abroad it's nice to see the city and the snow. Hope your power stayed on... my folks house hit 7C before the lights turned back on!

Happy New Year! Thanks for the comments. This continues to be a really great thread, so much variety and quality everyone.

Gilzuma, I wasn't directly effected (being a little closer to the lake, supposedly things were a bit warmer and there was less ice build-up). I did have to evacuate my mother from North York to my house. As of Dec. 31, everyone is supposed to have their power back now, at least in the Toronto area -- kudos to the hardworking hydro workers from across the province, Manitoba, Michigan and elsewhere!

Another of Otis' "starving orphan squirrels".......I call this one Butterball. If you want to donate, feel free to contact Otis and make a contribution. I can tell that this little guy will waste away if he doesn't get a donation of nutritious feed....within 6-8 months!

Regards!

Maybe a trim and slim more healthy squirrel? "I don't overeat, cross my heart!"
