My first walk about with my K5

Potsdam, Germany, 20th Nov 2010

I upgraded from a K10D to K5 last week and I love the K5 already.

Minor post processing done in Aperture 3.

K5, Kit 15-55mm WR @ 55mm , ISO 1600, 1/8000s, f8

K5, Kit 15-55mm WR @ 31mm , ISO 400, 1/30s, f10

The light for the next two was very orange, which is reflected in the hue:
K5, SMC A 50mm f1.4 , ISO 800, 1/250s, f1.4

K5, SMC A 50mm f1.4 , ISO 400, 1/250s, f1.4

Please don't get me wrong - pictorially the shots presented here are lovely.

But my eyes are finding that the images have a certain softness about them?

I think the term, lacking in acuity, comes to mind. Is this a correct statement?

Although it has been said and tested that the K5 matches the D700/5D MKII IN IQ - I think not.

IQ does not equal sharpness. These images are also absurdly sharp. Keep in mind we are looking at web-sized JPEGS... and please take this discussion elsewhere...

here is an appropriate dumping ground where you will find all the answers to your questions...

Hi... I think all of us are trying to get used to our new camera and understand it's limits. It's very new and it needs sometime to produce something with the maximum ability of the camera. It was the same when K10D was launched. But then we all have witneessed loavely photos were published with K10D. since K10D Pentax did not launch something revolutionary. From this perspective K-5 is the first revolutionary one since the last 4 years. I hope each passing day, your opinion may change with new coming photos from Pentaxians all over the world...

You know how you can usually tell a photo taken with the Canon 5D MK2? It just has a certain look, a definate quality. Even if you aren't sure when you scroll down and read taken with a Canon 5D MK2, you not your head and say yes of course.
Well the K5 images I have seen so far seem to have that same recognizable quality, only with a "Pentax" look to them.
Anyone agree?
+1. I think the K5 images are a notch above the K cameras so far in terms of DR and IQ... well done Pentax
