This is a cross post from "show us your photos forum". These are two shots I took last weekend for a photo contest, details below...

The contest is a 2 photo narrative, so the pictures have to tell a story. I headed out to eastern Colorado this last weekend to shoot the pictures. I just love it out there, it is such a barren beautiful landscape. We ended up finding this great desolate farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere. It also happened that once we found this place (after stopping by a few other locations, while driving around all afternoon) I had time to do inside and outside shots, then the sun set, so the lighting was perfect. The stars come out so quickly out there, and I had a stroke of inspiration to shoot the sunset, leave the camera on the tripod until the stars came out, then shoot another exposure to help with the feeling of vast isolation, and the passage of time.
Both great shots... the second is brilliant

cheers

NODeNoize 1.00 still I like the iso 1600 results..taken with my recently bought cheap badly reviewed Sigma non-APO 400 f5.6 AF..it's not a stellar lens but the K-5 simply makes it very usable..without risking the family peace (if the K-5 was not enough)

iso1600 f8:

thanks for looking!

Superb shot!!

I'm also getting very usable results at 12800 and beyond with a bit of NR. The K-5 rocks.

Curse you 10-17mm Fisheye CA! It's all good (maybe I'll remove it at a later time). I still love it anyway Don't let this dreaded HDR fool you. It was extremely dark inside this theatre. The black ceiling sucks all light into its abyss.

K-5, FA-50, Metz 58 flash
1/1000, f4, ISO400, handheld, uncropped
Some retouching done in GIMP to remove odd water drops that didn't behave well

The ad look is a complete spoof. Mälaren is in fact Sweden's 3rd largest lake from which 1.3 million of us living here around Stockholm get our tap water. Best water in the world!

No daylight used, by the way.

Downtown Dallas

This is one of the first shots I had the pleasure of taking with my new K5. Absolutely love this camera. No stains, and so far, I haven't noticed any focusing issues. I can't find one thing to NOT like about this camera.

Image info:
Dallas, TX right after "blue hour" (i missed it by about 15 minutes or so)
ISO 80
Shutter Speed 8 seconds
Aperture f8.0
Shot RAW and converted in Adobe Camera Raw and PP in Photoshop CS4
